The under 40k price segment has been seeing a lot many new additions to the smartphone market. The section is populated by major players like Xiaomi, OnePlus, and Huawei. All these three manufacturers have contributed to the said price segment in various capacities. This brings us to today’s comparison that includes one smartphone from each manufacturer. We are comparing the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s, Huawei P20, and the OnePlus 5T. It’s worth noting that except for the OnePlus 5T, the other two smartphones have not been launched in India. In fact, the Mi Mix 2s went official today in China, and the Huawei P20 has also been unveiled at an event in the US.
Mi Mix 2s vs Huawei P20 vs OnePlus 5T: Price in India
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s is launched at a starting price of CNY 3,299 (approx. Rs. 34,200) for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant, CNY 3,599 (approx. Rs. 37,300) for the 6GB RAM/128GB storage model, and CNY 3,999 (approx. Rs. 41,400) for the 8GB RAM/256GB storage variant. Xiaomi fans in India have to wait for the device to get launched in the country.
The Huawei P20 is launched at €649 (Rs. 52,000 approximately) in Europe. As for the OnePlus 5T, the phone retails at Rs. 32,999 for the 6GB RAM/64GB storage variant and Rs. 37,999 for the 8GB RAM/128GB storage variant.
Mi Mix 2s vs Huawei P20 vs OnePlus 5T: Display
The Mi Mix 2s comes with a 5.99-inch Full-HD+ display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and 1080×2160 pixels resolution with 403ppi of pixel density. The Huawei P20, on the other hand, features a 5.8-inch Full HD+ display with a resolution of 1080×2240 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18.7:9, due to a an iPhone X-like notch on the top of front panel. Lastly, the OnePlus 5T 6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio with 401ppi pixel density.
Well, in this comparison, all the three phones are pretty good. However, if you like an iPhone-X like notch then Huawei P20 could be a good pick if you if Huawei brings it to Indian shores.
Mi Mix 2s vs Huawei P20 vs OnePlus 5T: Performance
On the hardware and software front, the Mi Mix 2s comes powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC clubbed with Adreno 630 GPU, 6GB/8GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB/256GB storage, depending on the variant. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based MIUI 9.5.
The Huawei P20 comes powered by an octa-core Kirin 970 chipset, just like the Huawei Mat 10 Pro. It packs 4GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based EMUI 8.1 out-of-the-box. Lastly, the OnePlus 5T powered by a 2.45GHz octa-core Snapdragon 835 chipset, clocked paired with 6GB/8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. It runs Android 8.0 Oreo-based Oxygen OS.
Well, in this segment, the Mi Mix 2s soars high with the latest Snapdragon performance chipset. While Huawei’s Kirin chipset has also been accoladed for its snappy speed but does not have the same goodwill as Qualcomm.

Concerning optics, the Mi Mix 2s sports dual camera setup on the rear, which looks a lot like the iPhone X. It bears the same flash placement for the rear camera as seen on the iPhone X i.e. sandwiched between the two lenses. The 12MP+12MP dual camera setup has Sony IMX363 sensor, f/1.8 aperture, wide-angle lens and four-axis OIS for the primary sensor and Sony IMX363 sensor, f/2.4 aperture with telephoto lens with optical zoom for the secondary sensor. The Huawei P20 also comes with a dual rear camera setup, which is a combination of 12MP f/1.8 color (RGB) sensor and 20MP f/1.6 Monochrome sensor. The company has used Leica-branded camera sensor, which are claimed to be better than the ones on previous flagships by Huawei. On the front, it packs a 24MP f/2.0 camera. Both the front and rear cameras are backed with AI capabilities for automatic scene detection and more.
Similarly, the OnePlus 5T also boasts dual camera setup on the rear with a 16MP primary lens featuring Sony IMX398 with 1.12-micron pixels and f/1.7 aperture while the 20MP secondary sensor houses Sony IMX376K sensor. The rear camera is geared with OnePlus’s in-house ‘Intelligent Pixel Technology’ for capturing good pictures in low-light surroundings. The phone settles for a 16MP selfie camera on the front.
All the three phones have dual cameras that are geared with excellent softwares to give the best output. However, both Huawei and Xiaomi pack a little more than the OnePlus 5T, which is because the OnePlus 5T was launched several months ago.
Mi Mix 2s vs Huawei P20 vs OnePlus 5T: Verdict
Both the Huawei P20 and Mi Mix 2s look good on paper, with better specs than the OnePlus 5T but their fate for India seems hazy with none of the companies confirming their launch in the country. While the OnePlus 5T is still up for sale in India even after it has been discontinued in North America recently. So, if you are in urgent need of a good smartphone then the OnePlus 5T can be purchased right away.
