Samsung’s next flagship smartphone for 2018, the Galaxy Note 9 today made an appearance on the popular Geekbench benchmark database. While the benchmark listing has not revealed much about the device, it has confirmed that the US variant of the phablet will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 SoC. Another leak has suggested that the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus Android One smartphone will be an Amazon-exclusive in the Indian market. HMD’s Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones, meanwhile, have started receiving the Android 8.1 Oreo update today.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 appears on Geekbench with Snapdragon 845 inside
Samsung’s upcoming flagship phablet, the Galaxy Note 9 was spotted on the Geekbench benchmark database today, carrying the model number SM-N960U. Going by the model number, the prototype caught on Geekbench is the US variant of the phablet. As expected, the device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset and packs 6GB of RAM. In terms of software, the smartphone is currently being tested on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system. The Snapdragon 845-powered Galaxy Note 9 managed to achieve 2190 points in the single-core test and 8806 points in the multi-core test, which is on par with what most smartphones powered by the same chip score on Geekbench. According to latest rumors, the Galaxy Note 9 could be released in early August this year and could be Samsung’s first smartphone to feature an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Honor 10 Live images reveal a notch and dual rear cameras
Alleged images showing an Honor 10 prototype inside a rather large protective case have surfaced on China’s Weibo microblogging site. The images reveal the smartphone will have a notch similar to Huawei’s recently announced P20 and P20 Pro flagship smartphones. As you can see in the images above, the smartphone seems to have a fingerprint sensor on the front and a dual-camera at the back. There is no word yet on when the Honor 10 could be made official.
Samsung Galaxy J8 and J8 Plus battery sizes revealed
Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL) has published photos of the batteries of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy J8 and J8+ smartphones. According to the photos published by the agency, the Galaxy J8 will be backed by a 3000mAh capacity battery, while the Galaxy J8+ is going to come with a 3500mAh capacity battery. Going by previous leaks, the Galaxy J8 (2018) will be powered by an Exynos 7885 octa-core processor clocked at 1.6 GHz with a Mali-G71 GPU. It will also feature 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Other rumored specs include a 5.5-inch display with 720p HD resolution, 13MP rear camera, and an 8MP selfie camera. The Galaxy J8+, on the other hand, will be powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset, coupled with 4GB of RAM.
Nokia 7 Plus to be an Amazon-exclusive in India
Twitter user Ishan Agarwal has managed to find evidence in the source code of an Amazon India page that suggests the upcoming Nokia 7 Plus Android One smartphone will be exclusive to the retailer giant in India. HMD Global is holding a launch event in India on April 4th, where it is expected to launch at least a few new Nokia phones in the country, including the Nokia 7 Plus. The Nokia 7 Plus was announced by HMD Global at the Mobile World Congress 2018 in Barcelona last month. HMD’s latest mid-range offering, the Nokia 7 Plus sports a 6.0-inch Full HD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio and runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC under the hood. The variant headed to India will include 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. Some of the other key features of the Nokia 7 Plus include a 12MP + 12MP dual-camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 16MP selfie camera, a USB Type-C port, NFC, and a 3800mAh battery with 18W fast charging. The Android One smartphone runs on the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box.
Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 start receiving the Android 8.1 Oreo update
HMD Global today started seeding the Android 8.1 Oreo update for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 budget Android smartphones. The latest update is now being rolled out via the OTA route in select markets around the world, including India. In terms of size, the OTA update weighs in at 866MB for the Nokia 5 and 933MB for the Nokia 6. The update also includes the latest Android security patch for March 2018. HMD has also confirmed that the Android 8.1 Oreo will be rolled out for the Nokia 2 and Nokia 3 smartphones very soon.
