Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Price in India, features, and specifications compared

Yesterday, Oppo launched the A83 Pro in India. The Oppo A83 Pro is a mid-range Android-based smartphone, and it competes directly with the Xiaomi Mi A1 and Honor 9 Lite. Below is a brief comparison of these three smartphones.

Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Price in India

The Xiaomi Mi A1 was launched in India on 5th September 2017 with a price tag of Rs. 14,999. A few after the launch, Xiaomi dropped the price of the Mi A1 to Rs. 13,999, and it currently continues to be sold for the same. The Honor 9 Lite was launched in India on 17th January 2018 with a price tag of Rs. 10,999 for the 32GB storage variant, and Rs. 14,999 for the 64GB storage variant. Since the launch, the price of the device has remained the same. Although, we expect that Honor will lower the price of the 64GB storage variant in the near future, in order to keep up with the new and more affordable devices. Lastly, the Oppo A83 Pro that was launched yesterday is priced at Rs. 15,999.

Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Display

When Xiaomi launched the Mi A1 in India, it had one of the best display in its price range, but that’s not true anymore, as the device lacks the bezel-less display that its competitors are offering. The Mi A1 comes with a 5.5-inch IPS LCD panel featuring Full HD resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The Oppo A83 Pro features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display. The Oppo A83 Pro in spite of being costlier than the other two devices has HD+ resolution, which is lower than what the other two devices in comparison offer. Additionally, the device doesn’t even come with Corning Gorilla Glass protection, which is a shame.

The display of the Honor 9 Lite combines the good bits from the displays of the other two smartphones; it has a bezel-less design of the Oppo A83 Pro, and sharpness of the Mi A1. The device features a 5.65-inch IPS LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and bezel-less design.

Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Camera

The Xiaomi Mi A1 features a 12MP + 12MP dual-camera setup with phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone dual-LED flash. The Mi A1 is the only device in the comparison to feature 4K video recording, and that gives the device a big advantage over the other two devices. The Mi A1 also has a 5MP front-facing camera that can record Full HD videos.

The Honor 9 Lite too features a dual-camera setup for its primary camera, but it isn’t as fancy as the one in the Xiaomi Mi A1. The dual-camera setup has one 13MP sensor and one 2MP sensor. The 13MP shooter is used for capturing images, while the 2MP shooter acts as a depth sensor. Though the device lacks in the primary camera performance, it makes up for that with its 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the front.

Once again, the Oppo A83 Pro in spite of being costlier lacks behind the Mi A1 and the Honor 9 Lite; it features a single 16MP primary camera. What’s astonishing though is that the camera doesn’t even feature phase-detection autofocus, and that’s utterly disappointing. The device features an 8MP secondary camera.

Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Performance & battery

The Xiaomi Mi A1 features Snapdragon 625 SoC, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage. The SD625 SoC is the most powerful SoC among the SoCs of the devices in the comparison. The Mi A1 is also an Android One device, and it has Android 8,0 Oreo OS. The Honor 9 Lite has an in-house developed Kirin 659 SoC, which has a decent amount of processing power, but it lacks behind in graphics performance. The Honor 9 Lite too has Android 8.0 Oreo OS.

The Oppo A83 one again lacks behind the Xiaomi Mi A1 and the Honor 9 Lite, thanks to the MediaTek Helio P23 SoC. Though the SoC has sufficient processing power, it has serious lack of graphics power. The Oppo A83 features 4GB of RAM, and the device runs on Android 7.1 Nougat OS with ColorOS 3.2 customisation.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 has a 3080mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0 support. The Honor 9 Lite has a 3000mAh battery, and it lacks any fast charging technology. The Oppo A83 packs a 3180mAh battery, and similar to the 9 Lite, the A83 Pro too lacks fast charging technology.

Mi A1 vs Honor 9 Lite vs Oppo A83 Pro: Verdict

The Oppo A83 Pro has lower processing power and an inferior display quality than the Mi A1 and Honor 9 Lite. The device also lacks dual-camera setup, and has an outdated operating system, in spite of being costlier than the other two devices, which is why we think it is not worth spending money on.

Now, between the Honor 9 Lite and the Xiaomi Mi A1, the Mi A1 is a better device overall, as it has higher processing power and better primary camera than the Honor 9 Lite. The Mi A1 also comes with a fingerprint scanner, USB Type-C port, and fast-charging support, that the Honor 9 Lite lacks. Lastly, the Mi A1 is Rs. 1,000 cheaper than the Honor 9 Lite, making it a great value for money.
