OnePlus smartphones have created their niche in the industry, breaking sales record and wooing customers globally. While the company is busy working on the OnePlus 6T, it does not seem to have forgotten its existing users on the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T smartphones. The company has rolled out a new software update for the OnePlus 5, 5T, but it is limited to the users on Open Beta build.

OnePlus released the OxygenOS Open Beta update 7 for the OnePlus 5 and the OxygenOS Open Beta update 5 for the OnePlus 5. The latest update brings some new features and fixes onboard, keep reading to know about them all.

According to the information shared on the OnePlus official forum, the OxygenOS Open Beta builds brings these new features:

Launcher: Addition of “Recent” search tag in the search app section of the app drawer to help users in finding the items they recently searched for.

Weather App: The location accuracy has been improved along with the addition of new icons and updated UI.

Gaming: The update adds Network boost in Gaming mode, which improves the network performance when in Gaming mode. The Gaming mode on OnePlus 5T lets users play games without disturbance by debarring notifications and calls.

System: Bug fixes and improvements to boost the overall software performance.

The OxygenOS Open Beta builds for the OnePlus 5, 5T will be rolled out to the eligible users via OTA update. If you own a OnePlus 5 or 5T and want to enrol in the Open Beta program, then you can do it by following the instructions given on this page. However, if you have never flashed your phone then you must avoid doing it now as you may end up bricking your smartphone if not done right.

It sports 16MP+20MP dual camera setup at the rear and a 16MP selfie camera on the front. The phone ran Android 7.1.1-based OxygenOS at launch. It features a 5.5-inch AMOLED display with 1080 x 1920 pixels resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio. It launched at Rs.32,999 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage model, and Rs.37,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant.

The OnePlus 5 was succeeded by the OnePlus 5T that was launched in November 2017. The phone boasted a 6-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 1080×1920 pixels resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio with 401ppi pixel density. It came powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset with 6GB/8GB RAM and 64GB/128GB storage, based on the variant. It featured the same 16MP+20MP dual camera setup as seen on the Oneplus 5, but with a different secondary lens. For the front camera, it packed a 16MP sensor. Just like the OnePlus 5, the 5T also ran Android 7.1.1-based OxygenOS when launched but it later got updated to Oreo-based Oxygen OS.

The OnePlus 5T was launched at Rs.32,999 for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant and Rs.37,999 for the 8GB RAM + 128GB storage variant. The phone is still up for purchase in India even after being discontinued in North America.
