Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8 Plus Price Cut in India Following Galaxy S9, Galaxy S9 Plus Launch


Last month, Samsung launched its latest flagship Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ smartphones in India. Following the launch of its latest flagship smartphones, Samsung has reportedly slashed prices of the older Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ smartphones in the Indian market.

Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus: Price Cut Details

The Samsung Galaxy S8 64GB version will now be available for Rs.49,990 in India, while the 64GB version of the Galaxy S8+ will now retail for Rs.53,990. Samsung Galaxy S9+ 128GB variant, on the other hand, is available for Rs.64,900. In comparison, the new Galaxy S9 64GB version costs Rs.57,900 while the 64GB Galaxy S9+ is priced at Rs.64,900. While Flipkart is yet to update the prices, you should be able to get the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ at revised prices from any offline store near you or the Samsung India online shop. Buying offline will also make you eligible to receive a Paytm cashback of Rs.10,000. The Galaxy S8 is available in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, and Orchid Gray colors in India, while the bigger Galaxy S8+ comes in Midnight Black, Maple Gold, Orchid Gray, and Coral Blue colors. However, the 128GB variant of the Galaxy S8+ only comes in Midnight Black.

Samsung Galaxy S8: Features, Specifications

The Galaxy S8 packs a 5.8-inch sized dual-curved Super AMOLED Infinity Display with 1440 x 2960 Quad HD+ resolution, 570 PPI pixel density, Mobile HDR Premium certification by the UHD Alliance, 18.5:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on top. Under the hood, the version sold in India runs on a 10nm Samsung Exynos 9 8895 octa-core processor clocked at 2.35 GHz with a Mali-G71 MP20 GPU. The smartphone comes with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 built-in storage. There is no dedicated microSD card slot on offer, so you will need to make a choice between a second SIM card and a microSD card for further expansion.

On the imaging front, Samsung’s Galaxy S8 sports a 12MP resolution primary camera with Dual Pixel AF, optical image stabilization, an f/1.7 aperture, and an LED flash. For selfies, it features an 8MP AF sensor on the front with f/1.7 aperture and an 80-degree wide-angle lens. While there is no LED flash on the front, you can use the screen as a flash to take selfies in low-light. In terms of video, the rear camera is capable of up to 4K video recording while the selfie camera can record videos at up to QHD resolution.

Connectivity features offered by the Galaxy S8 include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, USB Type-C, NFC, ANT+, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, and 4G VoLTE. The smartphone’s internals are fueled by a 3000mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. In terms of dimensions, the smartphone measures 148.9 x 68.1 x 8mm and weighs in at 155 grams. While the Galaxy S8 was launched with Android 7.0 Nougat operating system last year, the smartphone received the Android 8.0 Oreo update last month.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus: Features, Specifications

The Samsung Galaxy S8+ comes with a larger 6.2-inch Infinity Display with the same resolution and 18.5:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by the same Exynos 8895 SoC as the Galaxy S8 but comes in two memory configurations instead of just one. The 64GB storage variant packs 4GB of RAM, while the 128GB variant of the Galaxy S8+ includes 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM.

On the back, the Galaxy S8+ has the same 12-megapixel Dual Pixel sensor with OIS, f/1.7 aperture, and 4K video recording at 30fps. The selfie camera is an 8MP AF sensor with bright f/1.7 aperture lens and 1440p QHD video recording.

While the Galaxy S8+ is no different from the Galaxy S8 in terms of connectivity features, it does pack a bigger 3500mAh capacity battery. Similar to the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8+ offers support for wired and wireless (WPC and PMA) fast charging. Both smartphones come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, IP68 rating for dust and water resistance, an iris sensor, facial recognition, Bixby AI assistant, and Samsung Pay features. In terms of physical dimensions, the bigger Galaxy S8+ measures 159.5 x 73.4 x 8.1mm and weighs in at 173 grams.
