Last year, Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus launched two flagship-class devices – the OnePlus 5 and the OnePlus 5T. Both the devices were critically acclaimed for their excellent performance and the sheer value for money prospect they brought to the table. This year, OnePlus will release the successor to the OnePlus 5T. In fact, the company has recently confirmed that the launch of the OnePlus 6 is expected in the next few weeks. In this article, let us see how the OnePlus 6 would fare against some of the other new products that were launched – or would be launched in the not too distant future. We will compare the spec-sheet of the OnePlus 6 to two phones – the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2s – both of which were launched just a few weeks ago.
OnePlus 6 vs Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Mi Mix 2s: Design, display
The OnePlus is likely to feature an aluminium body. If history is a precedent, we can expect the OnePlus 6 to closely resemble the Oppo R15 that was officially announced just a few days ago. The highlight of the R15’s design is the notch at the top of the display. The OnePlus 6, therefore, is also likely to get a similar notched display. This panel is likely to be a 6.28-inch Optic AMOLED display with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels. This will endow the handset with a PPI density score of 402.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco is a successor to the Nokia 8 from 2017. This handset features a stainless steel frame and has toughened glass coating at the front as well as the rear. The Nokia 8 Sirocco gets a 5.5-inch POLED capacitive display in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. The display ends up with a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels and ends up with a PPI density score of 534. The display also gets a coating of Gorilla Glass 5 for added scratch protection.
The Mi Mix 2s succeeds last year’s Mi Mix 2. The handset features an aluminium body and uses an IPS LCD display that measures 5.99-inches across. The display has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels and as you might have realized, is in the 18:9 aspect ratio. The panel also gets a Gorilla glass 4 layer for scratch resistance and durability. The PPI density figure for the Mi Mix 2s is 403.
OnePlus 6 vs Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Mi Mix 2s: Specifications, hardware
The OnePlus 6 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset – the flagship offering from Qualcomm. The chip houses the Adreno 630 GPU and also integrates an octa core processor. While we are not sure about the variants, a 6GB RAM version with 128GB of storage is certain. There could also be an 8GB version with the same storage capacity. The camera setup could include a dual 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel setup at the rear and a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
The Nokia 8 Sirocco uses last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipset that houses an octa core processor and the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics. The handset will come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage with a microSD card slot for additional storage. The camera setup consists of a 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel shooter at the rear and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies.
The Mi Mix 2s also uses the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC and comes in three versions; a base 6GB RAM + 64GB version, a mid-range 6GB RAM + 128GB version and a top of the line 8GB RAM + 256GB version. The handset comes with a dual camera setup at the rear consisting of 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel primary cameras and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera for video calls and selfies.
OnePlus 6 vs Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Mi Mix 2s: OS Updates, software
All three handsets in this comparison will be released in 2018 and for the same reason would run Android 8 oreo – the latest stable version of Android. While the OnePlus 6 would run Oxygen OS atop an Android 8 core, the Nokia 8 Sirocco would run a near stock version of the Android 8. The Mi Mix 2s will run MIUI 9.5 atop Android 8.
OnePlus 6 vs Nokia 8 Sirocco vs Mi Mix 2s: Price in India
None of the handsets in this comparison save the Nokia 8 Sirocco have officially come to India. Being flagship class handsets, every one of them would be priced above the Rs. 30,000 mark in India. The OnePlus 6 could be launched for the same price as the OnePlus 5T, and the same could happen to the Mi Mix 2s which would be sold for the same price as the existing Mi Mix 2. These, however, are mere speculation at this point. The Nokia 8 Sirocco was officially unveiled in India earlier today and has been priced at Rs. 49,999.
