Google Home, Home Mini Smart Speakers Launched in India: Price, Features, Launch Offers and More


Google today launched the Home and Home Mini smart speakers at an event held in New Delhi. While the Google Home was announced at Google’s October 2016 hardware event, the Home Mini was announced at Google’s hardware event held in October last year. As for the Google Home Max, the company has said that it has no plans of bringing it to India in the near future.

Google Home, Home Mini: Price in India, Launch Offers

The Google Home has been priced at Rs.9,999 in India, identical to its chief rival Amazon Echo. Google has priced the smaller Home Mini at Rs.4,499, same as its rival Amazon Echo Dot. As confirmed previously, both the Google Home and Home Mini smart speakers will be sold online exclusively via Flipkart starting today. In the near future, both smart speakers will also be available at 750 offline stores, including Reliance Digital, Croma, Bajaj Electronics, Vijay Sales, Sangeetha, and Poorvika. The Google Home is available in Chalk color currently but a Coral option will also be made available soon. Google Home Mini, on the other hand, comes in Chalk and Charcoal colors.

As for launch offers, customers who purchase the Home and Home Mini will get six months of free access to Google Play Music along with special offers from Gaana and Saavn. Flipkart is offering a free JioFi router with music subscription, while customers who purchase the Google Home from Reliance Digital Store or MyJio store will get a free JioFi router along with 800GB 4G data. Customers opting for an ACT Broadband connection with a 90Mbps or higher speed plan and paying advance 12-month rental will receive the Home Mini for free. Google has also tied up with Philips to offer bundled Hue lights at special prices with the Home and Home Mini speakers. Finally, HDFC Bank credit card holders will receive a 10% cashback when purchasing either smart speaker.

The Google Home smart speaker uses a 2-inch driver and dual 2-inch passive radiators placed on the sides. For easy access, the Google Home features a touch panel on the top with controls for volume, music playback, and activating the Google Assistant. It uses two microphones to enable accurate far-field voice recognition using a technique called neural beam forming. Thanks to built-in Google Assistant, you can ask Google Home for answers to any questions, translate phrases, or even run simple math calculations. You can also ask it give you the latest news updates, play music, find recipes, set timers, and more. To add a “desi” touch, Google has customized the Assistant on Google Home to have a distinctively Indian voice.

Google Home Mini: Features, Specifications

The Google Home Mini is much smaller and has no corners or edges. It is enclosed in custom fabric with a non-skid silicone base. There are four LED lights underneath the fabric that will light up whenever it hears you or is thinking about an answer. Like the bigger Google Home, the Home Mini has far-field microphones that allow it to hear the user’s voice clearly even when they have music playing or in situations with loud background noise. And thanks to its circular design, it is capable of projecting “360-degree sound” using just a single speaker.

Both the Google Home and Google Home Mini smart speakers can be paired with other Bluetooth speakers that you may have in your home for fuller sound. If you smart home devices from brands like Philips Hue, D-Link and TP-Link, you will be able to control them using voice commands with your Google Home or Home Mini. Google has also confirmed that more features such as Hindi support will be coming to the smart speaker duo later this year.
