Thanks to an active leaks and rumours community, we now know about upcoming phones well before the official announcement. For example, we know that HMD Global, the company that currently holds the license to manufacture and distribute phones under the Nokia brand name, has some very interesting phones lined up for this year. Another company that has a bunch of models lined up for release in 2018 is Motorola. The Moto G6 Play from Motorola and the Nokia 4 from HMD Global are two phones that have recently been in the news frequently because they’re due to go on sale soon. But how exactly will these phones fare against the best? We decided to take an excellent smartphone in the same price range — the Redmi 5 — and compare all three. So let’s see which the best among the three is.
Moto G6 Play vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 4: Price in India
The budget-segment Redmi 5 was launched in December last year (2017) and is currently priced at Rs. 8,999. The Moto G6 Play is expected to appear on Indian shores sometime this month or latest by next month and is expected to carry a price tag of Rs. 8,000. And finally, we have the Nokia 4, which is expected to cost Rs. 9,999 when it makes its debut.

The Redmi 5 sports a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display and offers a resolution of 720 x 1440 pixels at an 18:9 aspect ratio. It has a pixel density of 282 pixels per inch (ppi). The Moto G6 Play is rumoured to have the exact same specs as the Redmi 5 — from the screen size to the resolution to the pixel density, all the parameters match. And this is the case for the Nokia 4 as well, as it has a 5.7-inch display offering 720 x 1440 pixels at 282ppi. And all three phones come with Gorilla Glass protection as well.
Moto G6 Play vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 4: Performance
The Redmi 5 from Xiaomi is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm SDM450 Snapdragon 450 chipset clocking 1.8GHz. The Moto G6 Play, on the other hand, is rumoured to have an eight-core 1.4GHz Qualcomm MSM8937 Snapdragon 430 SoC under the hood. As for the Nokia 4, we have leaks indicating that it will be driven by an octa-core Snapdragon 435 processor.
While the Redmi 5 currently runs Android Nougat on its custom MIUI shell, the Moto G6 Play will offer more of a stock experience and will run Android 8.1 (Oreo) when it is launched. The Nokia 4 is expected to offer the same version of Android when it makes its debut.
On the memory front, the Redmi 5 offers 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. Comparatively, the Moto G6 Play will come with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory. The Nokia 4 will offer 3GB RAM and 32GB of onboard ROM, like the Redmi 5.
Moto G6 Play vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 4: Camera
The Redmi 5 offers a 12MP primary camera, which is exactly what the Moto G6 Play offers as well. Of course, performance will be slightly different, but just how different, remains to be seen when the G6 launches. As for the Nokia 4, it is rumoured to have a 16MP rear camera. All three phones will be capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frames per second.
On the front, the Redmi 5 offers a 5MP selfie shooter whereas the Moto G6 Play will be equipped with a dual 5MP+5MP lens on the front. The Nokia 4 will come with an 8MP secondary snapper for your vanity shots.
Moto G6 Play vs Redmi 5 vs Nokia 4: Verdict
Of the trio, the Redmi 5 is the best option. It offers a good processor, a competent camera and it is aggressively priced. The Moto G6 Play and Nokia 4 come quite close but we will wait until the official launch for both devices to see if some feature or spec will give it the edge over the Redmi 5. But for now, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 is the best among these three.
