Black Shark is a new smartphone brand that has been backed by Xiaomi. Today, the company has officially announced its first gaming smartphone in China. The company is calling its first smartphone as Black Shark, but the final name could change. It is targeted at mobile gamers who like to play graphics-heavy games on their Android device.

Keeping all the requirements of modern-day smartphone gamers in mind, the Black Shark claims to offer best-in-class gaming experience. It comes packed with Qualcomm’s latest and greatest process, the Snapdragon 845 chipset. There’s enormous amount RAM as well, at 8GB. Then there are things like ‘True Liquid Cooling’ technology, an independent image processing chip, and other features to make gaming an immersive experience. Black Shark Phone: Features

The Black Shark features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080×2160 pixels) and 18:9 aspect ratio. The screen panel is claimed to offer a peak brightness of 550 nits, a pixel density of 403ppi, and 97% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Though the screen doesn’t have 120Hz refresh rate (something that’s present in the Razer Phone), it comes with Eye Protection Mode, MEMC smart motion technology, and image enhancement.

Under the hood, the Black Shark phone is uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset with 2.8GHz octa-core Kryo 385 CPU and Adreno 630 GPU. The mobile platform is paired with 6GB of LP-DDR4X RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 storage. Apart from the 6GB RAM variant, there’s a higher-end variant with 8GB of LP-DDR4X RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. For now, the company hasn’t revealed any information about the version of Android it runs, but we expect it to be running Android 8.0 or 8.1 (codenamed Oreo).

Speaking about its performance, the phone managed to score 279,464 points in Antutu’s benchmark tests, and that was showcased by the company at the launch event. The score is higher than any other Android smartphone that currently exists. The phone has incorporated ‘True Liquid Cooling’, which can bring down the temperature of the phone straight by up to 8 degrees celsius. The handset also has a fingerprint sensor at the front and it can be used for Alipay and WeChat payments. At one side, there’s a ‘Shark’ button pressing which you can enter high-performance gaming mode.

There’s a 12MP dual-camera at the rear with f/1.7 aperture, PDAF, and 4K video recording. The the front, there’s a 20MP camera with f/1.7 aperture. Last but not least, the phone comes packed with a 4000mAh battery with support for fast charging through the USB Type-C port. The loudspeakers are present beside the USB Type-C port. Along with the smartphone, Black Shark has also introduced a gaming controller for its phone. This gaming controller supports Bluetooth 4.0 and above, and can run on any device that runs Android 4.4 Kitkat and later versions. The gaming controller can only be attached to the Black Shark phone, and comes with a thumb pad for more comfortable and accurate gaming.

Black Shark: Price

Moving onto the pricing of the Black Shark phone, the 6GB RAM variant costs CNY 2,999 (approximately, Rs. 31,175), while the 8GB RAM variant retails for CNY 3,499 (approximately, Rs. 36,373), respectively. The gaming controller that pairs with the phone for better gaming experience is priced at CNY 179 (approximately, Rs. 1,860), but it will be available in limited quantities.
