Xiaomi Black Shark vs Nubia Red Devils vs Razor Phone

Xiaomi finally took the wraps off its much-awaited Black Shark smartphone, yesterday. Dubbed as a gaming smartphone, the Black Shark is a result of Xiaomi’s partnership with the Black Shark brand, but Xiaomi has kind of rebranded the entire package and selling it as its own. The Xiaomi Black Shark is a smartphone featuring a vivid design that makes it an absolute delight for those who have been waiting for playing PUBG at full power or any other game with high-end console level graphics on a smartphone.

However, as revolutionary as Xiaomi is pitting it, the Black Shark is not the first gaming-ready smartphone. The Razer Phone has already been on the horizon for several months. We can say that the Xiaomi Black Shark and the Razer Phone are two phones with very different aesthetics but a similar objective, i.e. to offer the best mobile gaming experience. And then we have the upcoming Nubia Red Devils smartphone, which is looking to debut in the same segment. In this post, we are going to compare the Xiaomi Black Shark, Razer Phone, and the Nubia Red Devils to see which one stands out.

Xiaomi Black Shark vs Nubia Red Devils vs Razer Phone: Design and Display

The Xiaomi Black Shark has an aesthetic far removed from the sober design that most smartphones comply with. On the contrary, we get a smartphone about six inches with rounded edges and the rear panel with an antenna in the form of X to avoid any interference at the time of picking it up. The device does not feature a smooth rear panel to save it from slipping. On the front, it bears a fingerprint sensor. Whereas, the Razer Phone has a design that despite being robust, is less strident. It is a rectangular mobile, with two large speakers in the front and a smooth rear panel where the only thing that stands out is the logo of the Razer snake. In fact, the fingerprint reader has been embedded into the power button.

The Black Shark may seem more compact to have a screen in 18: 9 format, but it is not entirely true because after all the screen is slightly larger. Xiaomi’s mobile is taller and narrower, but also thicker than the Razer Phone. As for the weight, the two mobiles are even, but Xiaomi’s device is seven grams lighter despite being bigger. Besides, remember that they have the same battery capacity so they will feel similar in hand, at least concerning size.

One of the most promoted features on the Razer Phone was its 5.7-inch IGZO screen with quad-HD and 120Hz refresh rate. By contrast, Xiaomi has not specified the frequency of Black Shark, so we may assume that it settles for 60Hz refresh rate like flagship smartphones and 6-inch 1080p HDR display. In this case, the Razer Phone stands out as the refresh rate is very important for gaming graphics.

The Nubia Red Devils smartphone is rumoured to come with at least 6-inches of display bearing a 2160×1080 pixels full HD+ resolution. Nothing has been leaked concerning the refresh rate on the phone. So, we don’t really have much to compare here for the Red Devil gaming-ready smartphone.

Xiaomi Black Shark vs Nubia Red Devils vs Razer Phone: Performance

A clear advantage that the Xiaomi Black Shark has over the Razer Phone is its SoC. The Chinese manufacturer’s gaming smartphone boasts the latest Snapdragon 845 chipset with 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4 RAM. The Razer Phone also came with the most powerful processor of its time, i.e. the Snapdragon 835 SoC with 8GB of RAM. The difference can be accredited to the launch timeline of both the phones. Xiaomi launched its phone when Qualcomm had already made its latest chipset available. At the design level they have been manufactured to introduce the best components available at the time of their launch, but the fact of time advantage allows the Xiaomi Black Shark to win this battle.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that the Black Shark incorporates liquid cooling where they promise to keep the phone cooler even when burning maximum fuel. Xiaomi claims that the liquid cooling on the Black Shark can lower the temperature by up to 8 degrees Celsius, which means that the phone won’t heat up during extensive gaming. We can say that Xiaomi Black Shark is winning the race by leaps now, thanks to Snapdragon 845 SoC and liquid cooling.

On the other hand, the Nubia Red Devils is rumoured to come with a Snapdragon 845 SoC paired with 6GB of 8GB of RAM just like the Xiaomi Black Shark. But one can’t just base the comparison on rumours, right?

Xiaomi Black Shark vs Nubia Red Devils vs Razer Phone: Battery

Another vital aspect in mobile gaming is the battery as without enough battery you just won’t be able to play for long. Both the smartphones have added 4000mAh but the Xiaomi Black Shark is compatible with Quick Charge 3.0 while the Razer Phone supports Quick Charge 4.0.

Xiaomi Black Shark vs Nubia Red Devils vs Razer Phone: Price in India

It’s worth noting that none of these smartphones have been launched in India yet. The Razer Phone’s price in India is expected to be Rs. 60,000 while Xiaomi has launched its Black Shark smartphone at a starting price of ¥2,999 (approx. Rs. 31,298). For now, Xiaomi has not made it clear if it will be launching the Black Shark outside China. As for the Nubia Red Devils, a lot needs to be unraveled about it and we will get to know all of that once it goes official on April 19.
