After making us wait for several months, Lenovo-owned Motorola finally took wraps off its Moto G6 and Moto E5 2018 lineup. Of course, the phones had been making a regular appearance on the rumour mill, but now the official specs are out of the bag. Motorola could be aiming at launching these devices under 10k price bracket in India. As of now, Motorola has not revealed the launch timeline for the Moto G6 Play and the Moto E5 smartphones in India.

Moto G6 Play vs Moto E5 Plus vs Redmi 5: Display

Starting with the display specifications of the three smartphones, the Moto G6 Play features a 5.7-inch LCD screen with 720×1440 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. The Redmi 5, on the other hand, comes with a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display bearing 720×1440 pixels resolution with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Whereas, the Moto E5 Plus bears a 6-inch LCD screen with 720×1440 pixels resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

In the display segment, both the Redmi 5 and the Moto G6 Play share similar specs but the Moto E5 Plus marks its presence with a bigger phablet-sized display.

Concerning hardware, the Moto G6 Play comes powered by a Snapdragon 428 processor with 2GB/3GB of RAM and 16GB/32GB storage. On the software side of things, the Moto G6 Play runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box and is backed by a 4000mAh battery with 15W turbo charging.

In contrast, Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 450 SoC paired with 2GB/3GB RAM and 16GB/32GB storage. It runs Android Nougat-based MIUI 9 out-of-the-box. A 3300mAh battery backs it. The Moto E5 Plus, on the other hand, is powered by a Snapdragon 435 SoC clubbed with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage. It also runs Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. The phone is backed by a massive 5000mAh battery.

In this comparison section, the Moto E5 Plus and the Redmi 5 stand on similar grounds with the same SoC but the Moto E5 Plus packs better battery and runs on the latest Android 8.0 Oreo OS.

Moto G6 Play vs Moto E5 Plus vs Redmi 5: Camera

For optics, the Moto G6 Play sports a 13MP rear camera with ƒ/2.0 aperture, LED flash, and an 8MP front camera with soft LED flash for capturing selfies in low-light surroundings. The Redmi 5 bears a 13MP rear camera with LED flash and 5MP selfie camera. Lastly, the Moto E5 Plus settles for a 12MP rear camera and an 8MP front-facing camera.

Both the Moto G6 Play and the Moto E5 Play share similar camera specs. The Redmi 5 lacks on the low-powered selfie camera.

As we mentioned at the beginning of this article, the Moto G6 Play and the Moto E5 Plus are yet to launch in India. However, going by there pricing in Brazil, we can expect Motorola to launch both the devices under 10k in India. Xiaomi’s Redmi 5 currently retails at Rs. 7,999 for the 16GB storage version and Rs. 8,999 for the 32GB storage variant. The 64GB variant of the phone has not been launched in India.

Keeping in mind all the specs and features of the three phones in the comparison, we can say that the Redmi 5 and the Moto E5 Plus fought a close war. However, the Moto E5 Plus takes the crown with its mammoth battery, larger screen, and better camera.
