Mi A2 (Mi 6X) 6GB RAM 128GB Storage Confirmed; Rear and Selfie Camera Samples Revealed Ahead of April 25 Launch

Xiaomi will be unveiling the Mi 6X in China at a media event in the country next week, April 25th to be precise. The global variant of the Mi 6X is expected to be launched in India and a few other markets as the Mi A2. Ahead of the official unveiling next week, Xiaomi has released a few official teasers on its Weibo page. In addition to confirming a 6GB RAM + 128GB storage variant for the smartphone, Xiaomi has also shared snapshots taken by the Mi A2’a dual rear cameras and the 20MP selfie camera.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X): Confirmed Specifications, Features

According to latest leaks, the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) will feature a 5.99-inch display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio, identical to the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro. Even in terms of design and build, the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) will be almost indistinguishable from the Redmi Note 5 Pro. Powering the Mi A2 (Mi 6x) could be Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 octa-core chipset, a significant upgrade over the Snapdragon 625 chipset powering the Mi A1. In the memory department, MI 6X is expected to be offered in multiple memory configurations in China with 4GB / 6GB RAM and 32GB / 64GB / 128GB storage options.

At the back will be a dual-camera setup with a 12-megapixel Sony IMX486 primary sensor and a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor, both paired with f/1.8 aperture lenses. On the front will be a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor paired with an f/2.2 aperture and a selfie flash. Connectivity-wise, we expect the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) to support Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, an IR blaster, USB Type-C port, and 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on could be a 2910mAh capacity battery, slightly smaller than the 3080mAh battery inside the Mi A1. As revealed by leaked images, the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) features a fingerprint sensor at the back. In addition to the fingerprint sensor, the smartphone is likely to come with the Face Unlock feature as well. According to the Mi 6X listing on the TENAA website, the smartphone measures 158.88 x 75.54 x 7.3mm in terms of physical size. On the software front, the Android One Mi A2 is expected to ship with stock Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X): Rear Camera Snapshots

As we have mentioned above, the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) is expected to sport a 12MP + 20MP dual-camera setup on the back with f/1.8 aperture and support for 4K video recording. As you can see in the gallery above, the official snapshots taken with the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) rear camera appear bright and beautiful. However, since these images aren’t full-size, it is difficult for us to come to any conclusion. We will need to wait for full-size camera samples to surface online to get a better idea of what to expect from the dual cameras on the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) in terms of image quality.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X): Selfie Camera Snapshots

The Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X) is expected to feature a 20-megapixel Sony IMX376 sensor on the front, identical to the Redmi Note 5 Pro. As can be seen in the official selfie camera snapshots above, the Mi A2 (Mi 6X) will come with a Portrait Mode feature, allowing users to capture selfies with a nice bokeh effect. Again, these samples aren’t full-size, so it is tough for us to judge the image quality. However, since the smartphone is expected to feature a near identical setup as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, image quality should also be more or less identical.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X): Price in India, Launch Date

The Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to be launched in India at Rs.14,999 for the base variant with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. While we cannot be sure if Xiaomi will launch the 128GB storage variant in the Indian market, the 6GB RAM variant with 64GB of onboard storage is likely to carry a price tag of Rs.17,999 in the country.

As for the launch date, Xiaomi will be officially announcing the Mi 6X in China on April 25. The Mi A2, however, isn’t expected to be made official this month. Instead, we expect the smartphone to be launched in India sometime next month, as suggested by the references to the Mi A2 found on the Xiaomi India website recently.
