The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro was launched in India in February 2018, and in spite of being a 2018 smartphone, it came with Android 7.1.2 Nougat, instead of the Android 8.0 Oreo, which was the latest Android OS available back then. After the launch, Xiaomi confirmed that the device would be updated to the Android 8.0 Oreo soon, but the company didn’t provide a timeline for the update rollout.
Redmi Note 5 Pro: Android Oreo, OS Update
Last month, a beta MIUI ROM for the Redmi Note 5 Pro was leaked and it was based on Android 8.1 Oreo OS. Now, a stable version of Android 8.1 Oreo OS based MIUI ROM has leaked. The latest leaked ROM comes with Treble support and brings with it the March security patch. According to the reports from FoneArena, the leaked ROM also features the new Notifications Shade and Full-Screen Gestures.
The leaked ROM comes bearing the name ‘MIUI Global Stable ROM 188.8.131.52.OEIMIFA’. There is still no official confirmation on when the update will roll out to the users via OTA, but it is expected to roll out by the end of April. Although, if you are eager to install the update, you can do so by manually downloading and installing the ROM. Folks at FoneArena have explained the installation process; you can visit there for further info on manual installation. However, keep in mind that the manual installation requires many complex steps; we don’t recommend it.
Redmi Note 5 Pro: Price in India
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in two variants; one with 4GB of RAM and another with 6GB of RAM. The 4GB RAM variant costs Rs. 13,999, while the 6GB RAM variant costs Rs. 16,999.
Redmi Note 5 Pro: Specifications, Features
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display. The display has a bezel-less design with 18:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution. The display is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass, but the company hasn’t mentioned the version of the Corning Gorilla Glass yet.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is the first smartphone to feature Snapdragon 636 SoC. As we’ve mentioned above, the device is available in 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants. The device is currently being shipped with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and it will soon be updated to Android 8.0 Oreo OS.
The Redmi Note 5 Pro is also the first Redmi smartphone in India to come with 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup. The camera is aided by phase-detection autofocus and LED flash. The Redmi Note 5 Pro doesn’t support 4K video recording, which is kind of surprising, as the lower priced Redmi Note 5 has the 4K video recording option. We hope that Xiaomi will enable the 4K video recording with a software update.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro houses a 4000mAh battery, and it supports Quick Charge 2.0 fast charging. Unfortunately, the device still uses microUSB port for charging and data transfer. The device has dual-SIM connectivity, 4G LTE with VoLTE, Wi-Fi ac/b/g/n, Bluetooth v5.0, infrared emitter, GPS, and FM Radio. For privacy and security, the device comes with a fingerprint scanner and an app locker.
The other convenience and customisation options of the Redmi Note 5 Pro include dual-apps, themes, Reading Mode, DND, and storage cleaner. The Redmi Note 5 Pro packaging in India includes a 10W charger, USB cable, and a transparent protective cover.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro is currently the most feature-packed smartphone in its price range. However, the same might not be true after the launch of the Motorola Moto G6 Plus. For more info on Motorola Moto G6 Plus, click here.
