Apple recently unveiled the updated 9.7-inch iPad, which is being called as the iPad 9.7. Sporting the same design as the previous-generation iPad that was launched last year, the latest one comes with better hardware and features that will make it come very close to a laptop replacement at a cheaper price.
It has all the hardware, specifications, features and pricing to make it a worthy buy for yourself and the best thing about this announcement is that the tablet is going to go on sale in India immediately. It does not feature the same design as the iPad Pro but to price it appropriately, some sacrifices are going to be necessary.
9.7-inch iPad (2018): Price in India, Availability
The Apple iPad 9.7 (2018) is going to be sold in two storage capacities: 32GB and 128GB. Both these storage variants will be sold in Wi-Fi only and Wi-Fi + Cellular versions. There is no storage expansion present on the tablet and you will have to purchase the Apple Pencil separately for the price of Rs. 7,600. The 32GB Wi-Fi only model will cost you Rs. 28,000 while the 128GB model will cost you Rs. 35,700.
If you are interested in picking up the Wi-Fi + Cellular models, they will also be available in the 32GB and 128GB capacities, with the base model carrying a price of Rs. 38,600, with the second model costing Rs. 46,300. If you are going to keep the iPad for a long period of time, we suggest that you pick up the 128GB storage model.
The latest iPad went on sale in India starting April 20, and is available through various online markets, including the Apple store. It is also going to be available on Amazon India and Flipkart, so there are several places where you can become the owner of the latest device. If you wish to get more performance out of an Apple-branded tablet, then you should wait for the iPad Pro models when they get released later this year.
9.7-inch iPad (2018): Features, Specifications
The updated iPad is identical to its predecessor in terms of dimensions and design. In other words, you will not get Face ID with the latest model as the home button is still retained and you get the same thick bezels. The display is a 9.7-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, so everything will look detailed, ranging from the app icons right down to the movie that you will be watching on the tablet.
Powering everything inside the iPad 9.7 (2018) is the A10 Fusion SoC, the same chipset that is present in the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. It definitely lags in performance and features compared to the A11 Bionic, but it is more than enough for your everyday needs and Apple had to cut down the costs of the tablet somehow. However, if you are a heavy multitasker, the iPad might give you trouble when opening up lots of applications.
If you like to open up a lot of applications at the same time and switch between multiple apps immediately, you should stick with the iPad Pro, or at least wait when Apple gets around to releasing brand new models this year. That’s because the iPad Pro series features more RAM, and is geared toward professionals. There is no smart connector present on the latest iPad, but it does get support for the Apple Pencil.
As for connecting to things like the keyboard and mouse for extra productivity, you can always purchase a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard and mouse combination and pair with the tablet for increasing your workflow. Apple says that the battery in the iPad 6 will last you for 10 hours but that is dependent and what kind of work you will be doing on it.
