Airtel has announced a new prepaid data plan to counter Reliance Jio’s rising dominance in the telecom industry. The new prepaid plan costs Rs. 49 and it offers 3GB of 3G/4G cellular data with 1-day validity to select customers. Gadgets360 is now reporting that the new 3G/4G data plan is not visible to everyone just yet.

While the Rs. 49 data recharge plan from Jio comes with a validity of 28 days, the new counter plan from Airtel offers just 1-day validity. There’s already a Rs. 49 plan from Airtel, but it only offers 1GB of 3G/4G data instead of 3GB of 3G/4G data, and it is also available for everyone, not some select lucky customers. Airtel Rs. 49 Data Recharge Plan: How To Avail?

If you want to avail Airtel’s new Rs. 49 prepaid data plan, you’ll have to user will need to visit Airtel’s website or use the My Airtel app and head over to the data section. In the data section you will be able to see if you’re eligible for the Rs. 49 prepaid data recharge plan.

If you’re not eligible for this plan, you will see only 1GB of 3G/4G data mentioned in the description of the plan. However, if you’re eligible, you will be able see 3GB of 3G/4G data mentioned in the plan’s description. Then, you can go ahead and pay for the plan using Airtel Money, credit card, debit card, netbanking, or UPI.

Airtel Rs. 49 vs Reliance Jio Rs. 49: Which Data Recharge Plan Is The Best?

Airtel’s new Rs. 49 recharge plan offers 3GB of 3G/4G data, and comes with a validity of just 1 day. Airtel has also been offering 30GB of free data to users who upgrade from a 2G/3G mobile phone to a 4G smartphone for the first time. On the other hand, the Rs. 49 recharge plan from Jio offers 3GB of 3G/4G data, and offers a validity of 28 days. Other than the data, Jio’s plan also offers unlimited voice calling.

While Reliance Jio Rs. 49 data recharge plan is hands down better than the Rs. 49 prepaid data recharge plan from Airtel, it is only available for Jio Phone users. On the other hand, if you are eligible for the Airtel plan, you can use it on any 3G/4G mobile phone, and not just a select phone.

Airtel 4G Competition: What It Is Doing To Counter Jio

Airtel is still the largest telco in India, but it has been bleeding money to keep up with the new entrant in the cellular space, Reliance Jio. To counter Jio’s excellent data plans and media ecosystem, Airtel has stepped up its game and relaunched plans to offer more calling and more data. It has also made the Airtel TV service for free to those who buy some of its popular recharge packs. It has also partnered with Hotstar to offer all its contents, including live IPL broadcast, to Airtel TV users. Word is that the company is also trying to tie up with Netflix to offer its content inside Airtel TV.

Airtel recently launched a Rs. 249 recharge pack, which offers unlimited calls, free roaming, 100 SMS per day, and 2GB of 3G/4G data per day. This plan comes with a validity of 28 days. It also relaunched the Rs. 349 recharge pack to offer 3GB of 3G/4G data per day for 28 days. Earlier, this recharge pack used to offer 2GB of 3G/4G data per day.

The company has also launched a new Rs. 499 prepaid recharge pack that offers unlimited local, STD, and roaming calls, 100 SMS/day, and 2GB of 3G/4G data for up to 82 days. This equals to 164GB of data for just Rs. 499. The highest end unlimited pack from Airtel is the Rs. 995 pack which offers unlimited calling, roaming calls, 100 SMS per day, and 1GB of 3G/4G data per day, and comes with a validity of a whopping 180 days.
