The Xiaomi Mi 6X was launched earlier today in China, and it brings tremendous improvements over its predecessor, the Mi 5X. It now features a bezel-less screen design, plenty of colour options, a much faster processor, an improved dual-camera setup, a sharper selfie camera, artificial intelligence backed software and Quick Charge 3.0 compatible battery. It could be launched as the Mi A2 in India to replace the Mi A1, which has been one of our most favourite mid-range smartphones for 2017.

However, is the Mi 6X better than similarly priced products from other smartphone brands like Nokia and OPPO? Today, we are comparing the Xiaomi Mi 6X with the OPPO F7 and the Nokia 7 Plus, both of which were launched recently in the country and come with minimal bezel screens as well as high-resolution front-facing cameras, similar to that of the Xiaomi Mi 6X. Let’s have a look at their pricing and then compare their specifications and try to see which one of them can be your best choice.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Price in India

The Mi 6X has a starting price of CNY 1,599 (approximately Rs. 16,999) in China, and that is for the variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage space. The variant with 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage is priced at CNY 1,799 (roughly Rs. 18,999), while the highest-end variant of the phone with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage is priced at CNY 1,999 (roughly Rs. 20,999).

The Nokia 7 Plus is available in only one variant (4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage), and that’s priced at Rs. 25,999. The OPPO F7 is available in two storage variants: 64GB (Rs. 20,999) and 128GB (Rs. 26,999). Right now, the Mi 6X has the price advantage over the other two phones, very reminiscent of Xiaomi’s usual strategy with all its products. Even the highest-end variant of the Mi 6X is priced lower than or similar to the other two phones.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Design

The Mi 6X uses a metal body design and minimal bezels on all four sides of the screen. It is available in five colours: Black, Gold, Lake Blue, Pink, and Red. Its design is exactly similar to that of the Redmi Note 5 Pro, including the bezel-less screen at the front and the vertically placed dual-camera setup and the fingerprint reader at its back. However, one negative point is that the company has removed the 3.5mm headphone port, and is relying solely on the USB Type-C port for charging as well as audio for wired headphones.

The OPPO F7 has a glass-and-metal design, similar to most high-end phones released in 2017 and 2018. The glass covers the front as well as the rear of the phone, while its frame is made using metal. The screen takes up most of the front part of the phone, leaving a cutout for the front-facing camera as well as a couple of sensors. The rear features a single rear-facing camera and a fingerprint reader. It looks awesome in its red variant and also has a 3.5mm headphone port.

The Nokia 7 Plus has a metal design like the Mi 6X, but it has a matte finish, and the vertical dual-camera setup is placed at the centre of its back. The fingerprint reader is placed in line with the dual-camera at the back. The front of the screen is mostly covered by the screen, leaving minimal bezels on its sides. Nokia has not forgotten the importance of a 3.5mm headphone port for most consumers, and they’ve retained it in the Nokia 7 Plus. Overall, the design decision needs to be taken by you as it’s a very personal preference. I personally like the design of the Mi 6X and the Nokia 7 Plus over the design of the OPPO F7, mostly because of the screen notch.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Screen

The Xiaomi Mi 6X has a 5.99-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The OPPO F7 has a 6.23-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 5 protection. The Nokia 7 Plus has a 5.99-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass 3 protection. They all have decent screens, but the OPPO F7 has a screen cutout, which can come in between and immersive experience while watching video content.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Cameras

The Mi 6X has a 12M+20MP dual rear-facing camera. Both 12MP (Sony IMX486) and 20MP (Sony IMX376) sensors have ƒ/1.75 apertures and phase-detection autofocus. Even the front-facing 20MP (Sony IMX376) camera has ƒ/1.75 aperture and 2x optical zoom. The phone also features artificial intelligence powered scene recognition for applying accurate settings for each scene type. The Mi 6X can record 4K videos using the rear camera and 1080p videos using the selfie camera. The front-facing camera also supports Face Unlock.

The OPPO F7 has a 16MP rear-facing camera with ƒ/1.8 aperture, phase-detection autofocus, and 1080p video recording. The front-facing 25MP camera has a fixed-focus lens, ƒ/2.0 aperture, and Full HD video recording. The OPPO F7 also features AI algorithms for better looking images from the front as well as rear-facing cameras. It’s a shame though that it can’t record 4K videos even with such a high price tag. It features Face Unlock for user authentication.

The Nokia 7 Plus has a 12MP+12MP dual-rear-facing camera setup. The primary 12MP sensor has ƒ/1.75 aperture, 1.4µm pixels, and dual-pixel phase-detection autofocus. The secondary 12MP sensor has ƒ/2.6 aperture, 1.0µm pixels, and 2x optical zoom. The phone has Carl ZEISS optics and can record 4K videos at 30fps. The phone has a 16MP selfie camera with ƒ/2.0 aperture, 1.0µm pixels, fixed-focus lens, and 1080p video recording. Going by the specs, the cameras on the Mi 6X and the Nokia 7 Plus should be neck to neck in terms of quality.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Performance, Software

The Mi 6X and the Nokia 7 Plus are equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor and run Android 8.1 Oreo. The Mi 6X uses MIUI 9.5 interface, while the Nokia 7 Plus has stock Android UI. The Mi 6X has 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB storage, and storage expansion through a microSD card slot. The Nokia 7 Plus has 4GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and microSD card slot. The OPPO F7, which runs Android 8.1 Oreo, uses the MediaTek Helio P60 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB/128GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot. Overall, the performance of the Mi 6X and the Nokia 6 Plus could be slightly faster than the performance of the OPPO F7. The user interface might be a matter of personal choice, whether you like boatload of features inside MIUI 9.5 or a clean UI of the Nokia 7 Plus.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Battery Life

The Mi 6X has a 3010mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 technology. The OPPO F7 has a 3400mAh battery. The Nokia 7 Plus has a fairly large-capacity 3800mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0. Going by the screen size, screen resolution, processor, and battery capacity, we expect the Nokia 7 Plus to last longer than the other two phones on a single charge. However, we can only tell the final performance after we’re done testing all three phones. We’re currently reviewing the OPPO F7 and the Nokia 7 Plus.

Mi A2 (Mi 6X) vs Nokia 7 Plus vs Oppo F7: Who’s The Best?

The Mi 6X has a very good processor, top-class cameras, and a lot of software features. It is also the cheapest phone among the three devices we’re comparing today. It lacks a 3.5mm headphone port, and the battery size is average for its screen size. If it gets launched in India branded as the Xiaomi Mi A2 and with stock Android user interface as well as Android One certification, it could be a segment leader and a perfect phone for those who like Xiaomi’s hardware and Google’s software. I would personally prefer this phone over the OPPO F7 and the Nokia 7 Plus, but I will put my final thoughts in our reviews of the three phones.

The OPPO F7 has the highest resolution selfie camera and fairly large size battery. It lacks a dual-camera setup on its rear, lacks 4K video recording using the rear camera, and its UI has dated looks. It also has a notch in its screen, which brings down the media watching experience. It also has a slightly slower processor in comparison, especially in terms of graphical processing.

The Nokia 7 Plus has a good screen, a dual-camera setup with larger pixels, supports 4K video recording, has a largest sized battery, and is an Android One certified device. It will receive faster security patches and Android version updates. The company has promised to deliver two major Android version releases to the phone. Capability wise, the Nokia 7 Plus appears as the strongest contender to be the best phone among the three, but the Mi 6X has a price advantage.
