Huawei and Honor seem to be in the mood for making 2018 a grand year for them. Just yesterday, Huawei announced its flagship handsets – the Huawei P20 and the Huawei P20 Pro in India. Huawei’s sub-brand Honor, in the meantime, is expected to launch its own flagship class device the Honor 10 in India most likely on May 10, 2018. While the date is not confirmed yet, this will be just one week before the OnePlus 6 officially comes to India on May 17. Both these smartphones are likely to be priced similarly and will battle for the title for the best ‘affordable’ flagship class handset. In this article, let us take a closer look at the Honor 10 and see how it compares against the OnePlus 6.
Honor 10: Design, Display
The Honor 10 will be yet another 2018 smartphone that will get an iPhone X-inspired notch at the top of the display. The handset itself will feature an aluminium frame and will use a toughened glass panel to cover both the front and the rear. The display on the Honor 10 will measure 5.84-inches across and will be in a tall aspect ratio. The panel happens to be an IPS LCD panel with a resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels and boasts of a PPI density score of 432.
Honor 10: Specifications, Hardware
The Honor 10 – as expected – will use Huawei’s own flagship class Kirin 970 chipset to do all the number crunching bits. This SoC houses an octa core processor with 4 Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.4Ghz and 4 Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.8 Ghz. The graphics department is handled by the Mali G72 MP12 GPU that should be able to handle most gaming titles you throw at it. The phone will be offered in multiple versions including a base 4GB RAM + 64GB version and two higher priced 6GB RAM + 64GB and 6GB RAM + 128GB versions. In all, there will be three versions of the Honor 10. Just like the OnePlus 6, the Honor 10 comes sans a microSD slot and you will have to be content with the onboard storage capacity. The handset features a fingerprint sensor at the front and uses a 3,400 mAh battery that should be more than enough to power the handset for a day worth of usage.
Honor 10: Camera and Imaging
The Honor 10 features a dual camera setup at the rear. The primary camera is a 16-megapixel sensor with f/1.8 aperture and support for phase detection autofocus. The secondary camera at the rear, however, is a monochrome sensor with a resolution of 24-megapixels. The primary camera also gets an LED flash for low light imaging. The front camera is a 24-megapixel unit that should be able to capture decent selfies and aid in video calling. The handset can record 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 60fps in the highest settings.
Honor 10: OS Updates, Software
Moving on to the software part, the Honor 10 – like most other Honor and Huawei branded smartphones run the company’s own EMUI software atop an Android core. In case of the Honor 10, the handset runs Android 8 Oreo – currently the newest version of Android available for smartphones. Being a flagship class handset, the phone is likely to receive priority updates for the next few months. It could also be upgraded to Android P in the future. This, however, is not confirmed yet.
Honor 10: Price in India, Launch date
As per current reports, the Honor 10 is likely to be launched in India on May 10, a few weeks from now. The Honor 10 will likely prove to be a good competitor to the OnePlus 6 which is also set to be officially unveiled on May 17 in India. As for the pricing, the Honor 10 will replace the Honor View 10 as the flagship product of the Honor brand and is likely to be priced under the Rs.35,000 price bracket.
