The Nokia X was showcased in China yesterday, and the phone will be officially announced on May 16. It is the first X series Android smartphone from Nokia after its re-entry into the smartphone market. It will be exclusive to the Chinese market, at least for a few months if it gets an international launch at a later stage. It’s a mid-range Android smartphone with a bezel-less screen with a notch as well as a dual-camera setup at its rear. It uses a mid-range processing chipset, dual-SIM card slot, Android 8.1 Oreo, and a 3500mAh battery. How does it compare with other mid-range smartphones, though?

Let’s compare it with two impressive mid-range smartphones that were recently launched: Huawei P20 Lite and the ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018). Both phones have metal-and-glass designs, bezel-less screens with notches, a dual-camera setup, and Android 8.0 Oreo.

The Nokia X has a metal-and-glass design, with glass panels at the front and the rear of the device. It has a 5.8-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution (1080×2280 pixels). There’s a notch at the top part of the screen where the earpiece, front-facing camera, and the proximity sensor.

The ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) has a 6.2-inc IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and a notch at the top part of the screen. The screen has 18.7:9 aspect ratio and 95% DCI-P3 colour gamut coverage.

Nokia X vs Huawei P20 Lite vs Asus Zenfone 5 (2018): Performance & Software

The Nokia X runs stock Android UI with Android 8.1 Oreo, and uses either the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor (variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage) or the MediaTek HelioP60 processor (variant with 4GB RAM and 64GB storage). There’s a microSD card slot for storage expansion.

The Huawei P20 Lite runs Android 8.0 Oreo based EMUI 8.0. It is equipped with the company’s own Kirin 659 processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB/64GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot (SIM 2 slot). The Kirin 659 SoC lacks any high-performance Cortex-A72/A73 cores and its Mali-T830MP3 GPU is not that powerful.

The ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) runs Android 8.0 Oreo based ZenUI 5.0. It uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, and a microSD card slot.

Overall, the Nokia X variant with 6GB RAM appears to be more powerful than the other two phones, and it uses stock Android UI as well. The company has been really focussed on offering the latest software to its phones since it made an entry in the Android smartphone segment. All phones have dual-SIM card slots, GPS, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth, USB Type-C ports, and 3.5mm headphone ports.

Nokia X vs Huawei P20 Lite vs Asus Zenfone 5 (2018): Battery

The Nokia X has a 3500mAh battery with support for faster battery charging. The Huawei P20 Lite has a 3000mAh battery, while the battery inside the ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018) has a capacity of 3300mAh. The Nokia X has the smallest screen and the largest capacity battery. Considering that all phones have Full HD+ resolution, the Nokia X’s battery should last slightly longer than the batteries inside the Huawei P20 Lite and the ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018).

Nokia X vs Huawei P20 Lite vs Asus Zenfone 5 (2018): Which Is The Best?

All things considered, the Nokia X appears to be a better phone on paper. It has a more powerful processor and more memory options. Its software is cleaner than the skins by Huawei P20 Lite and the ASUS Zenfone 5 (2018). Nokia is also more focussed on releasing monthly security patches as well as Android version updates.
