Huawei had refrained itself from launching products in India under its own brand because it saw the country as a price sensitive market. Instead, it launched its value-for-money sub-brand Honor in the country. However, that changed this year after the US government practically forced the Chinese company out of its country’s market due to data security related concerns. Huawei now wants to enter the Indian market with its high-end smartphones like the Huawei P series. The company launched two new smartphones in India last month — Huawei P20 Lite and Huawei P20 Pro — but that doesn’t mean that it won’t launch its Honor branded devices in the country.
The company has confirmed that the Honor 10 will be launched in India. Maybe this is the reason why the Huawei P20 was not launched in India. Since Huawei P20 and the Honor 10 feature similar specifications, launching the Huawei P20 could’ve cannibalised the sales of the Honor 10 in the country. Both phones use a 5.8-inch IPS LCD screen with display cutout, a Kirin 970 processor, 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, Android 8.1 Oreo based EMUI 8.1, a dual-camera at the rear, a 24MP front-facing camera, a fingerprint reader, and a 3400mAh battery. Both phones even have glass-and-metal bodies and USB Type-C ports. The company has also revealed the possible pricing of the Honor 10 in India.
Honor 10: Price In India, Availability, Possible Launch Date
The Honor 10’s price in India could be somewhere in the vicinity of the Rs. 35,000 mark, and will be launched exclusively through Flipkart. P Sanjeev, Vice-President Sales, Huawei India-Consumer Business Group said, “We are delighted to announce that Flipkart will be our exclusive online sale partner for Honor 10. We are confident that this association with Flipkart, who shares our vision to deliver superb value to consumers will help strengthen our position in the Indian smartphone market.”
The Honor 10 was launched in China a few days ago, and the pricing for the 64GB and 128GB storage variants was CNY 2,599 and CNY 2,999, respectively. The company will most probably launch just the 128GB storage variant of the Honor 10 in India, and decrease the pricing of the Honor View10. If it decides to launch the 64GB variant of the phone in India, it may have to discontinue the Honor View10 since the phones are quite similar in terms of hardware specifications and features.
Honor 10: Design, Features, Specifications
The Honor 10 features a 5.84-inch IPS LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The phone also has an edge-to-edge screen, but with an iPhone X style display cutout for the front-facing camera as well as ambient light and proximity sensors. The screen-to-body ratio of the phone still doesn’t cross the 80% mark because there’s a chin below the screen to accommodate a front-mounted fingerprint reader. The Honor 10 uses a glass-and-metal sandwich design and a new and exciting Twilight colour option. Unlike the Huawei P20 Pro, the phone is not resistant to dust or water. The phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo based EMUI 8.1 interface, and uses the HiSilicon Kirin 970 processor, 4GB/6GB RAM, and 64GB/128GB internal storage. There’s microSD card slot in this phone, so storage expansion is out of question.
The Honor 10 uses a 16MP+24MP dual-camera setup at the rear. The 16MP colour (RGB) sensor acts as a primary sensor and has ƒ/1.8 aperture. It has hybrid autofocus mechanism which uses phase-detection and contrast-detection technologies. The the 24MP sensor monochrome (B/W) sensor acts as a secondary sensor. The phone can record 4K videos at 30fps and 1080p videos at 60fps. The front-facing 24MP camera has ƒ/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording. The phone has a dual-SIM card slot, 4G LTE, VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi a/b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, Bluetooth 4.2 (with aptX HD), IR port, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone port. The Honor 10 has a 3400mAh battery with 5V and 4.5A Super Charge, but it lacks wireless charging.
