After Samsung Galaxy S9, S8 and Note 8, OnePlus 5T, 5, 3T, and 3 to Soon Receive Google Lens Feature on Google Assistant

The Google Assistant on the OnePlus 5T, 5, 3T, and 3 is receiving Google Lens support. The Google Lens is the company’s advanced image recognition tool for consumers. The Google Lens support on these devices can only be accessed by setting the preferred language to English. The Google Lens is exclusive to the Google Assistant and Google Photos, and it can not be downloaded separately from the Play Store.

The Google Lens can recognise objects and provide a contextual response. For example, you can point the camera towards a landmark or local building and see its reviews, or you can point the camera towards a book and know its details, including price and availability. The Google Lens can also be used to scan business cards and save the name and the contact information from it.

As we’ve mentioned above, the Google Lens is also available in the Google Photos app on Android and iOS; it can search for images related to the search keyword. For example, you can search photos of animals, kids, parties, screenshots, cars, and other objects from your Google Photos library.

The Google Lens update on these four smartphones was first reported by XDA Developers. Currently, to get the update, you can click on check update in the Google Assistant. After which, the app will be updated to show the lens icon on the bottom right of the app.

So far, only a limited number of devices have received the Google Lens support, but the upcoming Google I/O might bring this feature to a wider number of devices and platforms.
The Google Lens support in the Google Assistant has already been rolled out to the Samsung Galaxy S9, Galaxy Note 8, and the Galaxy S8. With the four OnePlus devices now receiving the Lens support, the upcoming OnePlus 6 is expected come preloaded with the Google Lens functionality. Speaking of the OnePlus 6, below are its rumoured specifications and the expected price in India.

OnePlus 6: Launch date and expected price in India

OnePlus has announced that it will launch the OnePlus 6 on 17th May 2018 in Mumbai. Interested people can attend the OnePlus 6 launch event by buying its tickets, which will go on sale tomorrow, i.e. on 8th May 2018, starting at 10 AM IST. The device is expected to go on sale in India one week after its launch. The OnePlus 6 is expected to be priced at Rs. 39,999 for the top-tier variant, while the base model might cost Rs. 35,999. As before, the device will be sold exclusively through Amazon and OnePlus Store in India.

OnePlus 6: Expected features

OnePlus has already revealed that the OnePlus 6 will have a notch at the top of its display, similar to that on the Apple iPhone X. The tweets from OnePlus also indicate that the device will be water and dust resistant.

The OnePlus 6 is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC. The base variant of the device is expected to have 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, while the top-end variant might have 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The OnePlus 6 will run on Android 8.1 Oreo OS, and the OS will have Oxygen OS customisation.

The current flagship smartphone from the company, which is the OnePlus 5T, performed well in our review. The dual-camera setup of the device has the best image quality in its price range. The OnePlus 6 is expected to take it a step further with the updated camera modules featuring OIS (optical image stabilisation). The OnePlus 6 is also expected to have 4K video recording at 60 frames per second.

The OnePlus will have a fingerprint scanner along with face unlock feature. The device is also expected to carry over the DashCharge fast charging technology, if not an improved version of it.
