Nokia 6 (2018) launched in India with a single variant, a few weeks back. Yesterday, HMD Global introduced an upgraded variant of the phone in India and is calling it Nokia 6.1. The latest variant of the Nokia 6 (2018) packs better hardware and is priced moderately for the Indian smartphone market. Now, with the arrival of this phone, it becomes almost unavoidable to not compare it with Xiaomi’s successful Redmi Note 5 Pro smartphone. Also, we are adding the soon to be launched Xiaomi Mi A2 aka Mi 6X, to this comparison battle. Without further ado let’s take a look at what each of these phones offer along with their pricing. It must be noted that the specs of the Mi A2 are yet to be confirmed, but reports suggest that it is a rebranded version of the Mi 6X smartphone that was launched in China, a few weeks ago.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro’s price in India starts at Rs. 13,999 for the 4GB RAM variant and Rs. 16,999 for the 6GB variant. The Nokia 6.1 (Nokia 6 2018) is priced at Rs.18,999. The Mi A2 aka MI 6X has been launched at Yuan 1599 (roughly Rs. 16,000) for the 4GB RAM variant and Yuan 1799 (approx. Rs. 19,000) for the 6GB RAM variant.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a metal unibody design adorned with a curved back that offers a premium outlook to it. The phone has vertically placed dual camera lenses on the rear panel with an LED flash tucked neatly between them. It features a 5.99-inch FHD+ Full View display with an 18:9 aspect ratio.
The Nokia 6.1, on the other hand, boasts a sturdy build as it is crafted from a solid block of 6000 series aluminium. The edges of the device have diamond cuts and the metal frame on the device sports contrast colour, which makes the phone look stylish. It features a 5.5-inch full HD IPS LCD screen with 16:9 aspect ratio.
The Mi A2 aka Mi 6X is quite similar to the Redmi Note 5 Pro in terms of design and display. It also features a 5.99-inch FHD+ Full View display with 18:9 aspect ratio, the only difference between them lies in their charging port as the Mi 6X comes with a Type-C USB port whereas the Redmi Note 5 Pro ships with a micro USB port.
In this segment, both Redmi Note 5 Pro and the Mi 6X fair equally well with their FHD+ display and better aspect ratio. The Nokia 6 (2018) loses with its lower resolution and aspect ratio.

Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 5 Pro is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset paired with 4GB/6GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone runs Android 7.1 Nougat-based MIUI 9 and is backed by a 4000mAh battery. It must be noted that although the phone supports QuickCharge 2.0 technology, it does not come with a fast charger so buyers will need to buy it on their own.
The Nokia 6.1 comes powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 630 processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded up to 128GB via microSD card. On the software front, the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box without any customisation on top. A 3000mAh battery backs the device with support for fast charging.
Lastly, the Xiaomi Mi A2 (Mi 6X) features an octa-core Snapdragon 660 SoC coupled with 4GB/6GB of RAM and 64GB/128GB onboard storage. On the software side of things, the phone ships with Android 8.1 Oreo without MIUI customisation on top. The phone comes under Google’s Android One programme that also makes it a part of Project Treble. A 3010 mAh battery backs the phone with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
In this segment, the Xiaomi’s Mi A2 takes the crown with its superior Snapdragon 660 chipset that offers better RAM and clock speed in comparison with the chipsets on the other two phones. The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes second while the Nokia 6.1 settles for the third spot.

For optics, the Redmi Note 5 Pro sports 12MP+5MP dual camera setup on the rear, wherein the primary lens has f/2.2 aperture while the secondary lens settles for f/2.0 aperture. There is a 20MP selfie camera on the front.
The Nokia 6.1 does not come with dual camera setup, it features a 16MP rear camera with phase-detection autofocus and dual-tone flash. On the front, it has an 8MP selfie snapper.
Xiaomi’s Mi A2 (Mi 6X) packs a 12MP+20MP dual camera setup at the rear with Artificial Intelligence (AI) scene detection feature. It has a 20MP selfie camera.
As apparent, the Mi A2 wins this segment with its premium camera specs. The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes quite close but the Nokia 6 (2018) lags behind.
