Finnish smartphone maker Nokia seems to be on a roll these days. After the company made its much-awaited comeback back in early 2017, the company was on a mission to strengthen its entry-level, budget, mid-range, and high-end portfolio. In 2018, the company has more or less managed to achieve that with several new launches happening at MWC 2018. Perhaps one of the most important launches for the company in 2018 is its current flagship smartphone the Nokia 8 Sirocco. This handset succeeds last year’s Nokia 8 and comes with a more premium look and a bunch of additional features. All the three handsets in this comparison are currently on sale in India, and we know their current prices. The Nokia 8 Sirocco comes in a single 128GB version and has been priced at Rs.49,999 and can be purchased online from Flipkart.

The iPhone 7 comes in 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB versions with prices for the base version starting at Rs.42,999. The 128GB version can be bought for Rs. 54,999 while the price of the 256GB version can go up to Rs. 59,990.

As for the Samsung Galaxy S8 – this is last year’s flagship class product from the Korean electronics giant and is offered in a single 64GB version in India. The handset recently received a price cut and can now be [purchased for Rs.37,990.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco boats of an ultra-premium looking stainless steel frame mated to a large 5.5-inch display. This display happens to be a P-OLED panel and boasts of a resolution of 1440 x 2560 pixels. Unlike most flagship class handsets launched in 2018, the Nokia 8 Sirocco still gets a standard 16:9 aspect ratio. As far as hardware is concerned, it is observed that the Nokia 8 Sirocco uses the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC that is also found doing duty on last year’s Nokia 8. This SoC also houses the Adreno 540 GPU for graphics. The handset ships with 128GB of storage capacity and 6GB of RAM. There is no provision for a micro SD card slot on the Nokia 89 Sirocco. The camera department on the Sirocco consists of a dual 12-megapixel + 12-megapixel primary shooter and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera.

The iPhone 7 gets an aluminium body and boasts of a 4.7-inch display that dominates the front fascia. The display has a resolution of 750 x 1334 pixels and is in the 16:9 aspect ratio. In case you’re wondering, the display is of the IPS-LCD type. The iPhone is powered by the Apple A10 Fusion processor and comes in 32GB, 128GB and 256GB versions. The primary camera on the iPhone 7 happens to be a single 12-megapixel unit at the rear, and a 7-megapixel front-facing camera.

As for the Samsung, this handset features an aluminium body and also has a very premium feel. The display on the S8 is a Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1440 x 2960 pixels. The handset is powered by the Exynos 8895 SoC here in India. You can only buy the 64GB version of the handset in India. The imaging department on the S8 is handled by a 12-megapixel single camera at the rear, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco runs the stock version of Android and has been updated to the latest stable version of the OS. Nokia has promised that it will continue to issue regular software updates for the handset in the months to come.

The iPhone 7 – as expected of an Apple device – runs iOS 11 – the newest stable version of iOS. You can expect the handset also to be updated to newer software versions in the near future.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 did come with Android 7 at the time of its launch last year. However,  the company was a bit slow in issuing the official upgrade to Oreo. There is no word if the handset would also go on to get an official update to Android P

Thanks to the recent price cut, the Galaxy S8 which was priced over the Rs.40,000 mark can now be purchased for Rs. 37,990. This is a great price for an excellent, premium looking smartphone – albeit a  bit old. The Nokia 8 Sirocco is recommended for folks who simply love the design of the handset and could care less about the fact that it uses an SoC from last year. The iPhone 7 is still expensive compared to the other two handsets on this comparison and the prices range from Rs.42,000 to around 59,000. Our choice, therefore, is the Samsung Galaxy S8.
