The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 has become one of the most popular budget Android smartphones less than a month after its debut in India. Similar to Xiaomi, it appears ASUS is having some difficulty in getting adequate stocks ready for each sale, at least currently.

ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1: Features, Specifications
Like its main rivals, the Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 features a premium looking all-metal unibody design. The smartphone’s front is mainly dominated by the 5.99-inch IPS Full View display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Thanks to the 2mm slim bezels, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is much more compact than its 5.99-inch screen size would suggest. The smartphone not only shares the exact same display size and resolution as the Redmi Note 5 Pro, it also happens to be powered by the same Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor inside. Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor is clocked at 1.8 GHz and comes with an Adreno 509 GPU. In terms of performance, the Snapdragon 636 is a decent improvement over the Snapdragon 625 and all other chips that are found powering smartphones under the Rs.15,000 segment in India currently.
In the memory department, ASUS’ ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes in three configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage, 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. For further expansion, the handset includes a dedicated microSD card slot in addition to the two Nano-SIM card slots. While all the three memory versions are identical in most areas, they do differ slightly when it comes to the cameras. The 3GB and 4GB RAM variants of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 feature a 13MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with phase-detection autofocus and a Bokeh mode. For selfies, they feature an 8MP front-facing camera with an f/2.2 aperture, an LED flash, and a Bokeh mode. The smartphone is capable of 4K video recording as well, something that the Redmi Note 5 Pro doesn’t support.
Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on is a massive 5000mAh capacity battery with 10W fast charging. Some of the other key features of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 include a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, Face Unlock, and a 5-magnet speaker with NXP Smart Amp.
ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1: OS Updates, Software
The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 ships with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box. There is no custom skin on top, which means you can look forward to a near stock Android experience. In terms of software updates, ASUS has confirmed that the ZenFone Max Pro M1 will be receiving two major OS upgrades. The company rolled out an OTA update for the smartphone earlier this month, adding Face Unlock and the April Android security patch.
