Samsung Galaxy J4, J6, A6, A6 Plus India launch expected on May 21; J6 images leaked, official promo unveiled online


Korean smartphone major Samsung has started sending out invites for an event that they are holding in Mumbai on the 21st of May. From what is currently known, the company could launch a total of four new budget and mid-range smartphones at the event. These new devices are likely to the Samsung Galaxy J4 and the Galaxy J6 from the affordable J Series devices, and the Samsung Galaxy A6 and the Galaxy A6 Plus from the more premium Galaxy A series handset range. The invite sent out by Samsung reads ‘Say hello to Infinity and More’ which could be a subtle hint pointing towards the possibility of some of the smartphones toting an infinity display like the one seen on the likes of the Galaxy S9 and the Galaxy A8 (2018) series. Let us now take a closer look at each of these new handsets, starting off with the Galaxy A6 and the A6 Plus

Samsung Galaxy A6, A6 Plus: Display

The new Samsung Galaxy A6 and the A6 Plus models were both announced by the company recently. As you might have already guessed, the Galaxy A6 is the smaller of the two devices and will feature a  5.6-inch Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 710 x 1480 pixels while the larger A6 Plus model will feature a larger 6-inch Super AMOLED panel with a higher 1080 x 2220 pixels resolution. These devices end up with a PPI density score of 294 and 411 for the A6 and the A6 Plus, respectively.

While the Samsung Galaxy A6 would be powered by Samsung in-house Exynos 7870 octa core processor, with the Mali T-830 MP1 GPU, the A6 Plus will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 SoC that houses an octa core processor clocked at 1.8GHz and an Adreno 506 GPU for graphics. Both the handsets are likely to be offered in two capacity/RAM versions – a base 3GB RAM + 32GB version and a pricier 4GB RAM + 64GB variant. As for the camera, the Galaxy A6 and the A6 Plus both get a 16-megapixel, f/1.7 primary camera at the rear. The A6 gets by with a 16-megapixel camera at the front as well while the A6 Plus gets a higher resolution 24-megapixel front-facing camera. Both the front and rear cameras get LED flash for low light imaging.

Let us now take a look at the new J series smartphones. Unlike the A6 and the A6 Plus that were officially announced by the company, the new Galaxy J4 and the Galaxy J6 are both yet to be officially announced.

Samsung Galaxy J4, J6: Specifications, Features

The Samsung Galaxy J4 is rumoured to feature a 5.5-inch panel with a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels in the standard 16:9 aspect ratio. The phone will be powered most likely by the Exynos 7870 SoC – an entry-level chip from Samsung. The phone is likely to be offered in 3GB RAM and 3GB versions. It will get a 13-megapixel primary camera at the rear and 5-megapixel front-facing camera. The J4 will also get dual SIM support with support for 4G LTE connectivity. The hardware will be powered by a large 3000mAh battery.

As for the J4, this phone will get a 5.6-inch HD+ display with a resolution of 720 x 1480 pixels. It is likely to be powered by the octa-core Exynos 7870 SoC and will be offered in three versions, a base 3GB RAM version, a mid-level 3GB version and a pricier 4GB RAM variant. There will be two storage variants as well – 32GB and 64gb. As for the camera, the phone could get a 13-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Both the smartphones being J series phones could get the S bike mode and an Ultra Data Savings mode.

The Samsung Galaxy J6 official promo is now live on Twitter. The tweet says that the Galaxy J6 is coming soon and the video refers to an Infinity Display that the J6 is going to possess. It is also being informed that the Galaxy J6 will be available for pre-order starting May 22, 2018.

Recently, a few images supposedly if the Galaxy J6 were leaked as well.

As for the prices of these handsets, it is likely that both the A series handsets would be priced between the Rs.20,000 and the Rs.25,000 mark while the J series devices could be priced between the Rs.15,000 and Rs.20,000 price range.
