Xiaomi Launches Mi Router 4 with 128MB RAM and 128GB Flash Storage in China

It will go on sale from the 25th of May in China


Amidst the excitement from fans with the impending release of the flagship Mi 8 device, Xiaomi has released its fourth generation wireless router. The Mi Router 4, is tagged as a “fibre-level full-gigabit smart router” and has been made available for sale only in China at a launch price of CNY 199.

Mi Router 4: Specs and Features

The router has impressive features & specifications. It is powered by a MediaTek MT7621A MIPS dual core chipset, replacing the MediaTek MT7620 chips that are currently used in previous generation routers. The device also comes with 128MB of RAM and 128GB flash memory. The most impressive feature is that the device can connect up to 128 devices at the same time. A MiNET button is also provided that lets users connect with smart devices with just a single click.

The device operates on the OpenWRT based MiWiFi OS developed by Xiaomi. It features WAN/LAM + 2.4 G/5GB dual band network connectivity. In terms of security the device comes with features that include SSID hiding, intrusion detection, wireless access control (that lets users blacklist and whitelist other users), WPA-PSK/WPA2 – PSK encryption, SSID isolation, DoS protection and an access control manager. It can be configured & controlled using the Xiaomi Router app.

In terms of connectivity, the router comes with two Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port at the rear of the device, apart from the power input slot. Design wise, the device is sleek and small and as of now is available only in white color. It is fitted with four omnidirectional antennas for transmitting signal. To prevent over heating the device features a large area of aluminium-magnesium alloy heat sink that also has a thermal paste, which has high thermal connectivity. Cooling holes are also provided in the bottom of the device to let heat escape the device optimally.

As of now only the Mi 3C router is available in India and it is expected that the Router 4 will also soon make its way to India, most likely towards the end of this year. The device is available for sale from the 25th of May in China.
