During the Next@Acer 2018 global press conference (GPC) event held in New York, Acer announced a bunch of laptops, gaming PCs, ChromeOS-based machines, and gaming accessories. The company’s new gaming desktop lineup include the Acer Predator Orion 3000 and the Acer Predator Orion 5000.
The Acer Predator Orion series is made with extensibility in mind. The Orion 5000 gaming desktop has high-end specifications, while the Orion 3000 gaming desktop has mid-range specifications. Together with the already existing Predator Orion 9000 series gaming PCs, and the new Predator Orion 5000 and Predator Orion 3000 desktops, Acer wants to offer a whole range of gaming machines to which are able to cater to a wide range of consumers and needs.
Acer Predator Orion 3000 Gaming Desktop: Features, Price, Specifications
The Acer Predator Orion 3000 comes in two variants, one with an Intel Core i5 8400 CPU and the other with an Intel Core i7 8700 CPU. It can be configured with up to 64GB of DDR4 2666MHz RAM. It is compatible with up to 32GB of Intel Optane memory. It can also be configured with up to 3TB 3.5-inch drives and up to 512GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD. GPU options start from Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 and go as high as Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080. The case has a mesh at the front that’s hiding a single LED fan behind it. The front of the case also houses the Predator Lighting Bars and a hanger to hang the headphones. There’s a mesh on its side.
Similar to the Nitro 50 compact gaming desktop, the Acer Predator Orion 3000 also features Creative Sound BlasterX 720°, Realtek Dragon RTL8118AS gigabit ethernet, Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 5.0. I/O on the front of the PC include USB 3.1 Gen. 2 Type-C port, a USB 3.1 Gen. 2 Type-A port, and 3.5mm headphone and microphone ports. The company hasn’t showcased the rear of the Orion 3000, so we don’t know what ports are present at the rear. However, we expect it to have multiple USB 3.0 ports, HDMI and DVI ports, a USB Type-C port, and multi-channel audio ports. The Orion 3000 series has a starting price of $999 in North America from October. In the EMEA region, it will be available in July with a starting price of €1299. In China, it will be available starting July with a starting price of ¥6999.
Acer Predator Orion 5000 Gaming Desktop: Features, Price, Specifications
The Acer Predator Orion 5000 gives gamers options to choose from Intel Core i5 8400, Core i5 8600K, Core i7 8700, and Core i7 8700K CPUs. Like the Orion 3000, even the Orion 5000 supports up to 64GB DDR4 2666MHz RAM and up to 32GB Intel Optane memory. GPU options start from Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, and GTX 1080 Ti. Instead of Realtek Dragon gigabit and Wi-Fi+Bluetooth chips inside the Orion 3000, the Orion 5000 desktop uses the ultra-popular and high-performance Killer E2400 gigabit chip as well as Killer gigabit Wi-Fi+Bluetooth chip.
The Orion 5000 has a mesh at the front, two LED fans, and the Predator Lighting bar. There’s a transparent window on the side which is EMI compliant. There’s a headphone hanger, too. The PC has up to two PCIe x16 slots, two PCIe x2 slots, one M.2 2280 PCIe x4 slot for the SSD, and one M.2 2230 slot for WLAN. The Predator Orion 5000 series of gaming desktops will have a starting price of $1,499 in North America, and it will be available starting July. In the EMEA region, it will be available from June with a starting price of €1699. In China, consumers can buy the Orion 5000 from July at a starting point of ¥15,999.
