Mi 8 with Rear Fingerprint Scanner, MIUI 10 Screenshots Leaked Ahead of Launch On May 31

Ahead of the Mi 8 launch event in China on Thursday, a leaked poster has revealed the upcoming flagship may not come equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor.

Popular Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its next flagship smartphone, the Mi 8, at an event in China on May 31. Ahead of the launch event on Thursday, a leaked poster has appeared online showing a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. In a separate leak, screenshots showing MIUI 10 have also leaked online. As confirmed by the company recently, MIUI 10 will be making its formal debut along with the flagship Mi 8 smartphone on May 31.

Mi 8: Leaked Poster Shows a Rear-Mounted Fingerprint Sensor

Earlier this year, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun had told fans that the company’s next flagship smartphone will feature an in-display fingerprint sensor. However, a leaked poster that surfaced online today makes it very clear that the Mi 8 will not come equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. As you can see in the poster above, the Mi 8 features a circular fingerprint sensor mounted on the back of the handset. While the Mi 8 is now expected to come with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, the Mi 8 SE could perhaps be equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Apart from the in-display fingerprint sensor, the Mi 8 SE is expected to offer a few other advantages as well, along with a higher price tag. Apart from a fingerprint sensor, the Mi 8 is also rumored to come with advanced 3D facial recognition for biometric authentication.

MIUI 10: Leaked Screenshots Reveal Android P-Like Design

The MIUI 10 screenshots were spotted online by TechnoCodex and show a design that seems to have been inspired by Android P. Apart from the visual similarities, MIUI 10 will also share the floating window feature present in Android P. MIUI 10 is also said to include full touch gesture controls and improved performance compared to the previous iterations of MIUI. While the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE are going to be the first Xiaomi smartphones to run MIUI 10 out of the box, the company has confirmed that it will be rolled out to a large number of existing Xiaomi smartphones as well. The list of smartphones eligible for the MIUI 10 update include the Mi 6, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5 Plus, Mi 5X, Mi 4, Mi 3, Mi 4s, Mi 4c, Mi Mix, Mi Mix 2, Mi Mix 2s, Redmi Y1, Redmi Y1 Lite, Mi Note 2, Mi Note 3, Redmi Note 3, Redmi Note 3 Pro, Redmi Note 4, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi 5A, Redmi Note 5A, Mi Max, Mi Max 2, Redmi 4, Redmi 4X, Redmi 4A, Redmi 3, Redmi 3S, Redmi 3 Prime, Redmi Pro, Redmi 3X, Mi Pad 3, Redmi Note 5 Pro, Redmi Note 5, Redmi S2, and the Mi 6X.

Mi 8: Rumored Specifications, Features

Going by a recent leak, the Mi 8 is expected to feature a 6.2-inch notched IPS display with 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone will be powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 845 chipset, paired with up to 8GB of RAM. While the base variant could come with 6GB of RAM coupled with 64GB of onboard storage, the 8GB RAM variant is expected to include 128GB of internal storage. Similar to most flagship smartphones released recently, the Mi 8 is likely to sport a dual-camera setup at the rear. Rumors suggest the handset will feature a 20MP + 16MP setup at the rear, while on the front will be a 16MP snapper for selfies. Keeping the lights on could be a 3300mAh capacity battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 support and possibly wireless charging support as well, similar to the Mi MIX 2s.

Mi 8: Expected Price in India, Launch Date

As hinted by Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun a few weeks back, Xiaomi is unlikely to launch a flagship smartphone in India this year. However, if the company changes its mind, we expect the Mi 8 to debut at somewhere around the Rs.35,000 mark in India.
