Mi 8 Top 5 Features: Price in India, Launch Date, Specifications

Here are the top five features of Xiaomi's latest flagship Android smartphone, the Mi 8.

Earlier today, Xiaomi introduced its latest flagship smartphone, the Mi 8 at its 8th anniversary event held in Shenzhen, China. The Mi 8 succeeds the Mi 6 from last year and is arguably one of the most impressive flagship smartphones that the manufacturer has released so far.

Mi 8: Top 5 Features

  1. The top feature of Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone is undoubtedly the integration of 3D facial recognition technology, making it the first Android smartphone to offer a Face ID-like secure facial recognition solution that utilizes a an infrared sensor and lens to scan 4096 individual facial points. This also makes it possible for the “Face ID” feature on Mi 8 to work perfectly even in the dark. Unlike the iPhone X, the Mi 8 does include a fingerprint sensor as well. If you don’t wish to use the 3D Face Unlock feature, you simply use the fingerprint sensor mounted on the back of the handset to gain easy access.
  2. The next feature that has impressed us is the 6.21-inch AMOLED display sourced from Samsung. It offers 1080 x 2248 Full HD+ resolution and an 18.7:9 aspect ratio. Xiaomi says the display covers the DCI-P3 color gamut and has a peak brightness of 600 nits. With many manufacturers slowly making the switch to AMOLED with their flagship models, we are glad that Xiaomi has also made the switch this year.
  3. Let’s move on the next top feature of the Mi 8, the AI dual-camera setup at the rear. The Mi 8 comes with a 12MP + 12MP AI dual-camera setup. The primary sensor is a Sony IMX363 with four-axis optical image stabilization and large 1.4um pixel size. While the primary sensor is coupled with an f/1.8 aperture, the secondary Samsung S5K3M3 sensor is coupled with f/2.4 aperture. The dual-camera setup enables 2x optical zoom as well as a Portrait Mode with Studio Lighting effects.
  4. The fourth key feature of the latest Xiaomi flagship smartphone is the impressive 20MP snapper on the front. Xiaomi claims the selfie camera on the Mi 8 has an effective pixel size of 1.8um and supports real-time AI portraits as well as AI beauty modes to help users capture great-looking selfies.
  5. The fifth standout feature of the Mi 8 is dual-frequency GPS. That’s right. Xiaomi’s latest flagship smartphone is the world’s first smartphone to come with dual GPS modules. In addition to the L1 frequency traditionally used by smartphones, the Mi 8 will also be able to use the L5 frequency that is used mainly by the aeronautical industry. This allows the Mi 8 to deliver more precise and accurate navigation compared to other smartphones on the market.
