Vivo has officially confirmed that it will announce its flagship smartphone, the Vivo Nex, on June 12. The handset is believed to be the retail version of its conceptual APEX smartphone which it showcased at the MWC 2018 expo.
Speculations had emerged regarding the launch of the smartphone after Vivo published a teaser, offering a hint about what it is releasing next. Well, the company has now officially declared that it will debut the NEX smartphone on June 12, 2018. If we go by the teaser the device will be the second retail smartphone with an in-screen fingerprint reader.
Vivo NEX: What We Know So Far
The Vivo NEX is expected to sport a taller, 6-inch OLED screen with Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 or 19:9 aspect ratio. The display also might have close to 100% screen-to-body ratio, resulting in a device that might not have any bezels at all. The handset is said to be released in two variants. The higher-end model might feature Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, whereas the base version might use with Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset. The latter is believed to feature 4GB of RAM, whereas the prior might feature 6GB of RAM. There might be 64GB and 128GB storage variants of the Vivo NEX.
As far as the software goes, the Vivo NEX might run Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with Vivo’s customised Funtouch OS skin. Considering the leaked pricing of the smartphone, the Snapdragon 845 variant might retail for CNY 6,999 (approx. Rs. 73,515). The Snapdragon 710 variant might cost CNY 4,999 (approx. Rs. 52,505). Do note that these are leaked prices of the Vivo NEX, but the actual device might retail with price tags that are different from what was leaked, so take this information with a pinch of salt.
Vivo NEX: The Competition
The Vivo NEX will face a tough fight in China as well as other markets. It will compete with the newly announced Xiaomi Mi 8 and the OnePlus 6. There’s no doubt that it will compete with the likes of the Honor 10, Huawei P20 Pro, and the Samsung Galaxy S9, when it releases in the market. As of now, there are no details regarding the possible launch of the Vivo in the global market.
Considering that the Chinese OEMs like Honor, Huawei, OnePlus and Xiaomi have announced their flagship smartphones for 2018, we expect Vivo to make the NEX smartphone official in another markets as well.
