Chinese smartphone maker Vivo recently confirmed that it plans to hold a launch event in China on June 12 to announce the NEX smartphone, based on the APEX concept smartphone that was showcased at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year. Ahead of the launch event next week, the Vivo NEX has made an appearance on a Chinese Web TV show.
Vivo NEX: Disclosed in a Chinese Web TV Show
In the Chinese Web TV show, a man with a Horse head mask can be seen challenging random Americans to perform the Chinese finger and face dance. They are shown the video of the finger and face dance on a Vivo NEX and asked to replicate the moves. The smartphone’s pop-up selfie camera can also be seen in action in the TV show. Apart from the selfie camera, the smartphone’s impressive bezel-less display and the rear dual-camera setup can be clearly seen as well. Vivo has gone with a vertically-stacked dual-camera setup on the back of the handset, with an LED flash module positioned below it.
Vivo NEX: Rumored Specifications, Features
Based on the latest leaks, it appears the Vivo NEX will be available in multiple variants. The Vivo NEX, NEX S, and NEX A variants were, in fact, spotted on the 3C website in China. If rumors are to be believed, the NEX A will be exclusive to China, while the other ones will be launched in markets outside China.
As for the core specs, it is rumored that the base variant of the Vivo NEX, likely dubbed the NEX S, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset under the hood. The Snapdragon 710 chipset was made official by Qualcomm last month and the first smartphone to be powered by the new chip is the Xiaomi Mi 8 SE. In terms of memory, the Vivo NEX S is expected to feature 6GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage.
The top-end variant of the Vivo NEX is expected to be a true flagship offering with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor inside, coupled with an impressive 8GB of RAM and 256GB of native storage. Rumors also suggest that the pop-up selfie camera will only be available in the top-end variant of the smartphone. When users need to capture a selfie, the selfie camera will pop-up in just 0.8 seconds. The Vivo NEX S will not have the same pop-up selfie camera. What remains to be seen is if all variants of the NEX will have an identical screen-to-body ratio. If the NEX S will lack a pop-up camera on the front, it is likely that it will have a slightly lower screen-to-body ratio as well. The top-end model is expected to have a screen-to-body ratio of 91%. As for the display, rumors suggest the Vivo NEX will have a 5.99-inch display with an 18:9 aspect ratio. The resolution remains a mystery at this point, although we think Vivo will likely stick with Full HD+ resolution instead of switching to Quad HD+.
Vivo NEX: Expected Price in India, Launch Date
The Vivo NEX is rumored to start at 4,998 yuan (Rs.52,300 approx.) in China for the base variant and go up to 6,998 yuan (Rs.73,300 approx.) for the top-end variant. While we aren’t sure if Vivo will be bringing the NEX to the Indian market, you can expect it to be priced well above the Rs.50,000 mark in case it does. And if Vivo brings the top-end variant to India, it is likely to be priced above Rs.65,000. Some details regarding the smartphone’s global availability will perhaps be revealed at the launch event in China next week.
