At the Mobile World Congress this year, Sony introduced its first 2018 high-end Android smartphone, the Xperia XZ2. However, barely a few months after the smartphone’s announcement, an alleged spec sheet of the Xperia XZ3 has leaked in Japan, suggesting that a “successor” to the Xperia XZ2 will be arriving sometime later this year.

Sony Xperia XZ3: Leaked Specifications Reveal Dual Rear Cameras and More

According to the leaked spec sheet, the Xperia Z3 will be similar to the current Xperia XZ2 but with a few significant changes. The most notable difference will be the dual-camera setup at the rear, similar to one seen on the Xperia XZ2 Premium. While the primary sensor will be a 19MP RGB sensor with an f/1.8 aperture, the secondary sensor will be a 12MP monochrome unit with an f/1.6 aperture and large 1.55um pixel size. The selfie camera on the Xperia XZ3 is expected to be the same 13MP unit seen on the Xperia XZ2 with an f/2.0 aperture.

Now let’s talk about some of the other differences between the two smartphones. While the Xperia XZ2 features 4GB of RAM, the Xperia XZ3 will come with 6GB of RAM. Powering the Xperia XZ3 will be the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor with an Adreno 630 GPU. In terms of storage, the Xperia XZ3 will be available in two storage variants – 64GB and 128GB. The smartphone will include a microSD card slow, allowing users to expand the storage further by up to 400GB. While it remains to be seen if the Xperia XZ3 will sport an updated design compared to the Xperia XZ2, the spec sheet does suggest the handset will feature an identical 5.7-inch sized display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. The display will likely be protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top. Another area where the Xperia XZ3 will be an upgrade over the Xperia XZ2 is battery life. While the Xperia XZ2 packs a 3180mAh capacity battery, the Xperia XZ3 will be fueled by a slightly bigger 3240mAh capacity battery. Thanks to the slight increase in battery capacity, you can expect the Xperia XZ3 to offer marginally better battery life than its predecessor. It will support fast charging as well with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0.

In terms of connectivity, the Sony Xperia XZ3 will offer support for Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, NFC, and 4G VoLTE. Some of the other key features of the Xperia XZ3 revealed in the new leak include an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance and a USB 3.1 Type-C port. The leaked spec sheet also reveals the dimensions of the upcoming smartphone. It reportedly measures 153 x 72 x 10.1mm and weighs in 183 grams. That makes it 1mm thinner than the Xperia XZ2 and also 15 grams lighter in terms of weight. In terms of software, the smartphone will reportedly ship with the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box.

Sony Xperia XZ3: Release Date

Sony usually announces new Xperia smartphones at IFA each year, so we expect the Sony Xperia XZ3 to be officially announced at IFA 2018 in Berlin, which kicks off on August 31 this year. In most major markets, the Xperia XZ3 will probably go on sale before the end of September.

Sony Xperia XZ3: Expected Price in India

Sony hasn’t launched the Xperia XZ2 in the Indian market yet, so we are not completely sure if the Xperia XZ3 will be coming to India. If Sony does decide to bring the Xperia XZ3 to the Indian market, we can expect it to be priced at somewhere around the Rs.45,000 mark.
