The state-owned mobile network operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), has announced a massive data offer of 4GB per day for its prepaid customers. It was announced as a festival offer to mark the celebration of FIFA World Cup. This offer pack is given at a cost of Rs 149 as a take on Reliance Jio’s recent revision of its recharge plans.
BSNL FIFA World Cup Special STV Plan:
BSNL has hit back the Reliance Jio’s Double Dhamaka offer with its new Rs.149 data plan. This plan is a new Data STV plan that does not offer any other benefits apart from Internet data. It is announced as a festive offer on the event of FIFA World Cup 2018. This sports event is supposed to start from 14th June, i.e., tomorrow. The Data STV plan is designed to provide a total of 4GB Internet data per day.
Moreover, this plan is applicable for the entire period of the FIFA event, which runs from June 14, 2018, to July 15, 2018. The plan is made available to all telecom circles of the country wherever BSNL operation is applicable. However, the service is not available to Mumbai and Delhi circles, if the reports are believed. Apart from those two circles, other circle subscribers can avail the offer within the offer period, as this offer is given across for 30 days. While offers from other telecom companies are valid only till the end of this month (June), BSNL is the first offer that is being extended till next month.
Previous BSNL Bonanza Offers:
As we can see a pattern, BSNL always launches a tariff plan at the onset of any big sports events. Similar to this FIFA offer, it has once launched a plan for Rs 248 that gave 3GB Internet data for a total of 51 days. On this occasion FIFA, it came with yet another lucrative plan of Rs 149 to give 4GB a day for 28 days.
Although the offer seems quite attractive, it has major drawbacks. The plan does not offer any benefits other than Internet data. It has been introduced only to serve the purpose of the Internet and as a promotional Data STV card. Another shortcoming of this massive Data STV is that it is made available only to the prepaid customers. Prepaid customers can avail the offer through BSNL portal or any other portal dedicated for recharge.
BSNL vs Reliance Jio:
Aforesaid, the plan is launched to take on Reliance Jio’s new revision on its plans for providing 1.5GB extra on its recurring recharge. Jio’s new offer gives extra Internet data along with call and SMS benefits. The other benefits included unlimited local and national call without roaming charges and 100 free SMSs per day.
In addition, these benefits are applicable for the entire validity period. Along with that, free access to Jio-dedicated Apps is given for any Jio recharge irrespective of the recharge amount. Therefore, getting 1.5 extra data over the already existing data according to the plan and the additional benefits are tough to give a face off. It is still doubtful if BSNL will able to give a fight for these huge offers by Reliance Jio.
However, and surprisingly, BSNL has counterattacked Reliance Jio’s new offer Double Dhamaka with a festive offer on the occasion of FIFA World Cup. It will be intriguing to see how other leading telecom companies react to this offer. There is a high expectation from other leading telecom companies to hit back again with more such offers, as people are the one who is getting benefitted in this healthy competitive environment.
