
Taiwanese PC hardware and smartphone maker ASUS has started rolling out a new software update for the budget ZenFone Max Pro M1 (review) smartphone, adding 4G VoLTE support for Vodafone, Idea, and Airtel networks. The OTA update also brings the May Android security patch and some other changes as well.
ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1: Latest FOTA Update Brings VoLTE Support
The latest software update for the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is currently being rolled out via the OTA route. If you haven’t received an update notification on your ZenFone Max Pro M1 just yet, you can try looking for the update manually by heading over to Settings > System > System Update. As we mentioned above, the key highlight of the new update is that it brings VoLTE support for Vodafone, Airtel, and Idea subscribers. Once you install the update, you will be able to enjoy HD quality voice calls over the LTE network. Apart from 4G VoLTE support, the update also includes improvements to the performance of the fingerprint sensor as well as the selfie camera.
ZenFone Max Pro M1: Price in India, Offers
Currently, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 is available in India in two variants – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. The 3GB RAM + 32GB storage variant is priced at Rs.10,999, while the 4GB RAM + 64GB variant of the smartphone is priced at Rs.12,999. ASUS did announce a 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant as well for the Indian market but it is yet to be made available. ASUS India has actually been teasing the 6GB RAM variant of the smartphone recently on social media, so there is a good chance that the variant might finally go on sale this month.
Since the smartphone has been on sale for a few weeks now, Flipkart isn’t running many offers on it currently. Flipkart users who haven’t made any online payments yet can get a 5% instant discount on Visa cards, while Axis Bank Buzz credit cardholders can also get an extra 5% off. Flipkart also offers complete mobile protection at just Rs.299.
ZenFone Max Pro M1: Specifications, Features
The ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 features a 5.99-inch IPS LCD display panel with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio, identical to its chief rivals Redmi Note 5 and Redmi Note 5 Pro from Xiaomi. Under the hood, all variants of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 are powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 636 octa-core processor clocked at 1.8 GHz with an Adreno 509 GPU. As we mentioned above, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 comes in three memory configurations – 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, and 6GB RAM + 64GB ROM. For further expansion, the smartphone includes a dedicated microSD card slot.
In the camera department, the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants of the smartphone feature a 13MP + 5MP dual-camera setup at the rear. The 6GB RAM variant, on the other hand, features a 16MP + 5MP setup on the back. For selfies, the 3GB and 4GB RAM variants come equipped with an 8MP sensor with an LED flash, while the 6GB RAM variant features a 16MP selfie camera with an LED flash. To unlock the smartphone, users can either use the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor or the Face Unlock feature.
Connectivity features offered by the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and 4G VoLTE. The smartphone packs an impressive 5000mAh non-removable battery, bigger than both its main rivals. On the software front, ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M1 runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with minimal bloatware and a near stock Android experience. The smartphone is also confirmed to be updated to Android P.
