Last month, Nokia had made news when it launched its first Notched Display smartphone, the Nokia X6, albeit only in China market. Earlier this month, in an event in Moscow, the company announced 2018 editions to the Nokia 2, the Nokia 3 and the Nokia 5, called the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 5.1 respectively. But there was no news of the X6 launching in any market outside China. Well, now we’ve got some fresh info that the Nokia X6 might still be coming to other markets, although most probably with the moniker ‘Nokia 5.1 Plus’.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Specifications, Features

A new report by Nokia Revolution has come out which states that the company is already working on a device which will be placed between the Nokia 5.1 and the Nokia 6.1, and is codenamed ‘Panda’. The source also claims that this phone will be nothing but the Nokia X6 making its debut in the global markets. However, it might be called the Nokia 5.1 Plus instead, which according to us kind of dulls the sheen of the phone. Nokia X6 sounds like a much better name than Nokia 5.1 Plus can ever do. We also have some info about the specifications of this phone. It will come with a notched display, just like the original X6, and will pack in 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. Powering the device will be a MediaTek Helio P60 (MT6771) chipset rather than P20, as earlier rumored. Notably, the original X6 ships with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 chipset. Further, we know that it’s dimensions are 149.5 x 71.9 x 8mm. On the front, it will have a 5.8-inch HD+ display with a notch and 2.5D Gorilla glass. On the software side, it will come with Android Oreo 8.1, and like all latest Nokia phones, should be a part of the Android One program.

Nokia 5.1 Plus: Leaked Renders and Images

Earlier this week, we had reported leaked renders of a Nokia X6 meant for Global markets, and a Nokia X6 variant carrying the model number TA-1103 had received certification from the National Communications Commission (NCC) in Taiwan. For reference, the Nokia X6 variant launched in China carries the model number TA-1099. This suggests that a different variant of the Nokia X6 receiving certification in Taiwan which means that HMD Global is, in fact, getting ready to launch the mid-range Android smartphone in at least a few markets outside China soon. The TA-1103 variant certified by Taiwan’s NCC was reportedly spotted on the website of a Bluetooth certification agency as well. The renders do show a design very similar to the Nokia X6, albeit with a wider notch at the front and that same dual camera setup on the back. While the company is yet to confirm any specific timelines for the global release of the X6, we can possibly expect the smartphone to go on sale in at least a few markets outside China before the end of the third quarter in 2018.
