Ever since Vivo showcased the in-display fingerprint technology at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2018, there was a lot of chatter about the first actual production smartphone which will feature this tech. Vivo obliged us with the X21 and it has been recently launched in India too at a compelling price point. What all does this phone pack and is it worth your money? We find out.
Vivo X21: Price in India, Offers
The Vivo X21 is currently available via Flipkart for a price of Rs.35,990. This puts it in direct competition with the OnePlus 6. There are a lot of offers which you can avail on buying this smartphone. You can avail No Cost EMIs starting from Rs.3,999 a month on all major bank cards. Flipkart is also offering exchange offers of up to Rs 16,700 on this phone. Apart from these, there are some bank offers going on for example on all Axis Bank cards and all Visa cards, you get an instant discount of 5% on the phone.
Vivo X21: Design, Display
Vivo X21 features a glass-meets-metal design with premium all-glass back and front, wrapped in a metal frame. Its main USP however, is the under-display fingerprint sensor, which does away with the need for any physical fingerprint sensor and home button on the device, totally. To unlock their devices, the users of Vivo X21 just need to touch the fingerprint prompt on the display screen and it gets unlocked in a jiffy.
On the front, it has a 6.28-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display which is an extra tall 19:9 panel with a notch at the top. There is also a slight chin present but the phone does look impressive enough.
Vivo X21: Performance, Hardware Specifications
Although the Vivo X21 is technically pricier than the OnePlus 6, it lags behind it when it comes to raw processing power. Running on a modest Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset and the Adreno 512 GPU, Vivo X21 comes loaded with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Vivo X21: OS, Battery
The phone runs Android Oreo 8.1 out of the box, along with Vivo’s FunTouch OS 4.0 skin on top. Powering the device is a 3200 mAh battery, which also has support for Quick Charge technology.
Vivo X21: Camera Features
Vivo X21’s primary camera has a dual setup with 12MP and 5MP sensors. There is a 12MP secondary camera at the front for selfies. The camera also has the latest features of 3D mapping, Face Wake facial recognition and IR fill light, which makes it one of the most advanced Facial recognition systems on an Android phone yet. Vivo claims the AI scene recognition feature can detect up to 17 scenes and help users capture the perfect shot each time. As you would expect from a high-end smartphone, the Vivo X21 does support 4K video recording at 30fps. For selfies, the Vivo X21 is equipped with a 12-megapixel sensor on the front with an f/2.0 aperture and AI Face Beauty feature that uses machine learning to enhance selfies and is also capable of recording videos at 1080p Full HD resolution. Apart from capturing selfies and videos, the front-facing camera also offers upgraded face recognition technology.
Vivo X21: Overview
The Vivo X21 seems to be a bit over-priced for the specs it offers. In the same price, you can get a OnePlus 6 with a considerably better processor, and just better features overall. Yes, you miss out on the in-display fingerprint scanner, but it’s still not enough to make it a better proposition overall. The OnePlus 6 starts for Rs.34,990 for its base variant with 6+64GB storage and flagship-grade specs overall That being said, the Vivo X21 packs in some interesting features like in-display fingerprint scanner, near bezel-less display and impressive dual camera setup, which sure make the X21 a compelling buy, albeit at a price point closer to 30K and not 35K.
