Chinese smartphone maker Vivo has started pushing a new software update for its X21 smartphone, enhancing the in-display fingerprint sensor experience. Additionally, the update also includes some new features that are aimed at improving the user experience further. The smartphone was launched in the Indian market recently as a Flipkart-exclusive and happens to be the manufacturer’s current flagship device. It has been pitted against smartphone like the OnePlus 6 and the Honor 10 in India.

The latest software update for the Vivo X21 is currently available in China and is said to bring some improvements to the in-display fingerprint scanning experience. Vivo has tweaked the fingerprint recognition processing logic, enhancing both the efficiency as well as the security of the fingerprint sensor. Apart from the improved in-screen fingerprint sensor experience, the update adds some new features as well. These include AR-based 3D ‘Funmojis’, sticky notes, optimized driving mode, optimized status bar icon layout, optimized system resource scheduling mechanism, as well as improved system operating efficiency. While the update isn’t available for the X21 in India yet, we do expect Vivo to roll out the same update for users in the Indian market very soon.


Vivo X21: Price in India, Offers

Launched in India last month, the Vivo X21 is priced in India at Rs.35,999. It is sold online exclusively via Flipkart as well as the Vivo India online store. If you don’t wish to purchase the smartphone online, you can get the X21 at a Vivo retailer near you. In India, the Vivo X21 is available in a single color – Black.

Flipkart is currently offering extra 5% off on the X21 with Axis Bank Buzz credit cards. You can also get a 5% instant discount if you haven’t made any online payment on Flipkart yet and pay for the X21 using a Visa card. If you have an old smartphone that you are willing to exchange for the X21, you can avail up to Rs.16,700 off on exchange.

Vivo X21: Specifications, Features

The Vivo X21 features a Super AMOLED FullView 2.0 Display measuring 6.28-inches diagonally with 1080 x 2280 Full HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Apart from the impressive 90.3% screen-to-body ratio, the other major highlight of the Vivo X21 is its in-display fingerprint sensor. The 3D curved glass back of the handset not only adds to the visual appeal but also makes it comfortable to hold in the hand.  Powering the Vivo X21 is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 AIE octa-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz, coupled with 6GB of RAM. The smartphone comes with 128GB of onboard storage, which is further expandable by up to 256GB thanks to a Hybrid Dual-SIM configuration.

On the back of the Vivo X21 is a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with the primary sensor paired with an f/1.8 aperture. For selfies, the Vivo X21 comes with dual 12MP sensors with the AI Face Beauty feature that offers facial enhancement tailored for each individual. The front-facing camera also supports the Face Access feature, giving users easy access simply by scanning their face. As for video, the smartphone can capture up to 4K resolution videos at 30fps. Moving on to connectivity, the handset supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 5.0 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, FM radio, 4G VoLTE and USB OTG support. The smartphone is fueled by a 3200mAh capacity non-removable battery with fast charging support. For audiophiles, the Vivo X21 includes an AK4376A audio chip that is claimed by the manufacturer to deliver true-to-life sound quality. In terms of physical size, the Vivo X21 measures 154.5 x 74.8 x 7.4mm and weighs in at 156.2 grams. On the software front, the Vivo X21 currently runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system with the Funtouch OS 4.0 running on top.
