All the mystery around Oppo’s Find X campaign was intended to finally be uncovered at a launch event taking place in China later today. We do plan to provide live coverage of the event so stay tuned for that. With that said, a lot of the speculation can now be laid to rest as a new hands-on video has been released which showcases exactly what we are in for with the Oppo Find X. Also, there has been a new leak floating around online that allegedly reveals the pricing of the mesmerising smartphone.
Oppo Find X: Pop-up Cameras With No Notch
Taking a page out of Vivo’s book, Oppo has also developed its own iteration of the pop-up camera design in its effort to stretch the display as much as possible. This time, however, both the front and the rear camera are housed within the top part of the device that pops out when needed. This ensures that there is no camera bump to be found at the back and the contraption can sit perfectly straight on a table without any wobble. When toggled, the motorised unit is claimed to take just 0.5 seconds to open.
Now that there is no longer a notch to deal with, Oppo was able to cram a 6.4-inch screen onto the phone to achieve a 92.25 percent screen to body ratio. The front camera hidden inside the motorised unit is a 25MP shooter. Then you have the dual-camera setup at the back of this same pop-up unit which is comprised of 16MP and 20MP sensors. The entire assembly would come out of the phone’s chassis when the camera app is opened, and will simply squeeze back into place when the app is closed.
According to the information provided by The Verge, the front camera can be used for 3D facial scanning. When the phone is turned on and followed by a swipe up gesture on the screen, the camera unit will motor up and authenticate the user’s face to unlock the phone. The Verge claims that all this happens rather quickly and they feel that it wouldn’t be a hindrance in daily use.
Oppo Find X: Specifications, Features
The actual specifications of the phone have also been revealed. Going back to the screen of this device, the 6.4-inch display is using a curved OLED panel with a full-HD+ resolution. The back of the phone is also using a curved glass. As mentioned earlier, this phone uses 3D face scanning for biometric unlock. Oppo is so confident in the phone’s ability to work with this type of mechanism that it hasn’t included any sort of fingerprint scanner in this device as a backup (neither a dedicated sensor at the back nor an in-display sensor at the front).
Internally, the Oppo Find X is rocking the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor just like the top-of-the-line Vivo NEX S and other recent flagships. In terms of memory, the phone features 8GB of RAM and will offer storage options up to 256GB after all. Powering this package is a 3,730mAh battery which supports Oppo’s VOOC fast wired charging technology. The phone will obviously come with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo installed but has Oppo’s Color OS interface on top which largely borrows its UI from iOS.
Oppo Find X: Leaked Price
According to another image circulating on Weibo, the price of this smartphone is set as CNY 4,500 which roughly translate to Rs. 48,000. If this turns out to be true, the phone is very competitively priced for what it offers. The Verge did not confirm this pricing but did notice that there were a few comprises made on the Find X including a lack of water resistance. This does point towards a price tag closer to what has leaked, but we can only confirm once the phone is officially announced in tonight’s launch event.
