Asus has just gone ahead and launched their latest flagship smartphone, the Asus Zenfone 5Z, in India. The device will be a Flipkart only exclusive and will be competing against several other smartphones that are priced twice as much. One of the main competition for the Zenfone 5Z is the OnePlus 6.
Therefore, we will be comparing the Asus Zenfone 5Z with the OnePlus 6, and also the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Price in India
The Asus Zenfone 5Z will be available on Flipkart starting July 9th. The base variant, with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage, will cost you Rs. 29,999. The 8GB variant with 256GB of storage is priced at Rs. 36,999. That’s cheaper than the OnePlus 6, which costs Rs. 39,999 for the 8GB RAM and 128GB storage version.
Oh, and the Galaxy S9 Plus with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage is priced at Rs. 70,999. That’s twice as more expensive than the Zenfone 5Z, but is it that much better? We don’t think so.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Design and Display
As these are all 2018 flagship smartphones, all three have used a Glass body design. The Zenfone 5Z has a nice reflective glass back, whereas both the OnePlus 6 and the Galaxy S9 Plus offer a slightly less reflective glass back. The frame is made out of aluminium, to give it the strength. Overall, all three phones are on par when it comes to build and design, but the OnePlus 6 and the Galaxy S9 Plus use Gorilla Glass 5, whereas the Zenfone 5Z uses Gorilla Glass 3. The Zenfone 5Z and OnePlus 6 have the almost edge-to-edge display with a notch, while the Galaxy S9 Plus has bezels on both top and bottom.
Coming to the display, the Zenfone 5Z has a large 6.2-inch Full HD+ IPS LCD display with an 18.7:9 aspect ratio, the OnePlus 6 has a 6.28-inch Full HD+ AMOLED display with 19:9 aspect ratio, and finally, the Galaxy S9 Plus has a 6.2-inch QHD+ display with an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. The Samsung has the best display out of the lot.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Hardware and Specifications
In terms of hardware and specifications, all three are similarly equipped. They all come with the Snapdragon 845 processor and lots of RAM and internal storage. The Galaxy S9 Plus in India is sold with the Exynos 9810 chipset, which isn’t as powerful as the SD845.
The Asus Zenfone 5Z and the OnePlus 6 both offer up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Samsung’s Galaxy S9 Plus also gets 256GB of storage, but the RAM is capped at 6GB. We reckon the OnePlus 6 is the one you need if you are after speed.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Camera
The camera is an important aspect of flagship phones, and the Asus Zenfone 5Z has a really nice dual-camera setup. Of course, the winner here is going to be the Galaxy S9 Plus with its variable aperture dual-camera setup, but the other two are not too bad.
The Zenfone 5Z gets a 12MP+8MP combo at the back, the OnePlus 6 has a 16MP+20MP setup, and the Galaxy S9 Plus two 12MP shooters. On the front, the Zenfone 5Z and the Galaxy S9 Plus get an 8MP sensor, while the OnePlus 6 gets a 16MP lens.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Battery and OS
As for battery capacity, the Asus Zenfone 5Z and the OnePlus 6 get a 3300mAh battery, whereas the Galaxy S9 Plus gets a slightly larger 3500mAh unit. However, OnePlus has its proprietary Dash Charging tech, which is the faster charging available right now. Even the Asus and the Samsung phone come with fast charging, but we do not think it’s better than the OnePlus 6.
All three phones run on the latest Android 8 Oreo OS with their respective UI baked on top. The Asus has the ZenUI 5.0, OnePlus has the OxygenOS, and the Samsung has the Samsung Experience 9.0.
Asus Zenfone 5Z vs OnePlus 6 vs Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus: Final Conclusion
Well, price wise, the Asus Zenfone 5Z is the clear winner. And it’s not like the phone hasn’t got the hardware and features. You get everything that the other two phones have, albeit a slightly less powerful camera. Even then, the camera on the Zenfone 5Z isn’t that bad, and you can still get some great shots. It all comes down to your choice at the end!
