After announcing a price cut for the Galaxy A6 32GB variant in India last month, Samsung has now reportedly given yet another new Galaxy smartphone a price cut in India. Mumbai-based phone retailer Mahesh Telecom has revealed that the Galaxy J6 4GB RAM + 64GB storage variant has received a price cut in India. The smartphone was launched in India in May this year at a starting price of Rs.13,990.

Galaxy J6: 4GB RAM Variant Gets a Minor Price Cut

According to a tweet posted by Mahesh Telecom, the Samsung Galaxy J6 4GB RAM variant with 64GB of onboard storage is now available offline at Rs.15,990. It was launched in India at Rs.16,490, so this isn’t a major price cut. On Flipkart, the 4GB RAM variant is still priced at Rs.16,490 but we do expect the updated pricing to reflect on e-commerce sites within the next few days. However, if you are planning to purchase a Galaxy J6 soon, you should have no problems finding the 4GB RAM variant at Rs.15,990 at an offline store near you. If you don’t mind waiting a few more days, we recommend purchasing one from Flipkart as you will be able to get a cashback of Rs.1,500 on the smartphone when you pay for it using an ICICI Bank credit or debit card, bringing the effective price down to Rs.14,490.

Galaxy J6: Specifications, Features

The Galaxy J6 budget Android smartphone from Samsung boasts a 5.6-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display with 720 x 1480 HD+ resolution and an 18.5:9 aspect ratio. While the pixel density of the panel isn’t very impressive at 294 PPI, the bezel-less design does make it look a lot more modern when compared to older budget smartphones from Samsung. Powering the Galaxy J6 is an Exynos 7870 octa-core chipset clocked at 1.6 GHz with a Mali-T830 MP1 GPU.

When it comes to memory, the Galaxy J6 is offered in two configurations in the Indian market – 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage. For further expansion, both the variants include a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 256GB. Moving on to optics, the Samsung Galaxy J6 features a 13MP rear camera with an f/1.9 aperture on the back. Unlike some of its rivals, the Galaxy J6 is only capable of shooting videos at up to 1080p Full HD and not 4K. For selfies and video calls, the Galaxy J6 has an 8MP snapper on the front with an f/1.9 aperture and an LED flash. Additionally, the front-facing camera supports Face Recognition as well to help you unlock the phone quickly. If you aren’t too convinced by the Face Recognition feature, the Galaxy J6 offers a more secure fingerprint sensor as well, mounted on the back of the handset.

Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, FM radio, and 4G VoLTE. Fueling the internals of the smartphone is a 3000mAh non-removable battery. Fast charging isn’t supported, so you will need to be patient when charging the Galaxy J6. The smartphone measures 149.3 x 70.2 x 8.2mm and weighs in at 154 grams.

Galaxy J6: OS Updates, Software

The Samsung Galaxy J6 runs on the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system with the custom Samsung Experience UI layer on top. It comes with the Chat-Over-Video feature, which lets you use popular messaging apps like WhatsApp while viewing videos without having to pause or resize them. Thanks to the transparent keyboard, you will be able to continue enjoying the video viewing while you chat with friends. It also comes with the Samsung Mall app that lets you take a photo of anything you wish to own and search for a matching item online.
