HMD Global was going to unveil a new smartphone at a launch event taking place in Beijing, China today. Based on the recently spotted launch event invite card, the phone was likely to be the Nokia X5.

Nokia X5 Launch Cancelled: Reasons

However, The company has released a statement via its official Weibo profile letting fans know that the event was cancelled. It is unclear as to what the exact reason for this is, but it looks like there might have been some scheduling conflict with the launch event venue.

At the time of writing, Nokia has not mentioned when the Nokia X5 launch has been postponed to. We shall update you regarding any further developments.

Nokia X5: Expected Specifications

A TENAA listing and a few CAD renders popped up a while ago which gave us our first look at the upcoming smartphone. It is highly likely that the Nokia X5 will feature a 5.86-inch FHD+ screen along with a notch at the top. As for processing capabilities, the phone is expected to be powered by a 2GHz octa-core chipset. It isn’t certain which exact CPU this might be, with rumors previously suggesting either a Helio P23 or some Snapdragon 600 series chipset. New reports have popped up suggesting it might be running on a Helio P60 SoC instead. The latest Android Oreo is likely to arrive on the device by default. The experience will certainly be quite close to stock Android as that is the trend the company has been following for a while now. As for the battery, a 3000mAh cell is expected to be fueling this handset.

In the imaging department, the Nokia X5 is likely to sport a dual camera setup at the back which is rumored to be comprised of a 13MP lens and a 5MP lens combination. An 8MP snapper is expected to be placed at the front for selfies. The phone might come in 3GB/4GB/6GB RAM and 32GB/64GB storage variants.

Nokia X5: Expected Price in India, Availability

It had already been speculated that the 32GB storage variant of the Nokia X5 would be priced at CNY 799 (approx. Rs. 8,300), while the 64GB storage version would cost CNY 999 (approx. Rs. 10,400). A new image popped up on the popular Chinese social platform Weibo which allegedly confirms this pricing. Even if this pricing turns out to be false, the real cost of this phone should not be too far off as this is still expected to be a budget handset based on HMD Global’s strategy of focusing on the budget and midrange segment of the smartphone industry.

As for when the phone might officially release in India, we might have to wait a bit longer. There is the uncertainty around the Nokia X6 which still hasn’t made its way to this country. According to an HMD representative, the company is still evaluating a release strategy for the Indian market. It is possible that the company will just release both the Nokia X5 and Nokia X6 in India at the same time.
