Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 in White leaks, S Pen and optional keyboard too

The Galaxy Tab S4 has been popping up here and there across the tech radar for some time. Back in February, the tablet was spotted on GFXBench with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 (octa-core processor) inside. Next, the device received some certification in Russia – a sign that the Galaxy Tab S4 is more product than concept. After its GFXBench appearance, it is not surprising to see the Tab S4 appear on Geekbench. Geekbench, like GFXBench, is a benchmarking app that provides speed, performance, and device specs. And, once again, we were made privy to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC inside the Tab S4.

New Galaxy Tab S4 in White image leaks

The first official render of the upcoming tablet by Samsung shows a Black color (not surprising considering color schemes). “Tuned by AKG” remains a part of the tablet label on the back cover. This reminds us that with Samsung’s acquisition of Harman, AKG, a child company of Harman, has also become a Samsung company. AKG audio will remain a part of the tablet’s appeal. A single rear camera and the hardware buttons to the right side of the display remain. Now, a new second image shows a White Galaxy Tab S4 with the S Pen and optional keyboard along for the ride.

The new image is provided courtesy of VentureBeat’s own Evan Blass (@evleaks at Twitter), who is known worldwide for his mobile leaks before products are unveiled. His new image of the upcoming Galaxy tablet shows a silver trim alongside the tablet’s exterior. Silver trims are a sign that Samsung has a white tablet in store. The silver S Pen leaks as well, along with another photo showing the silver-colored back cover. All in all, one would think the tablet is silver instead of white – but that’s part of Samsung’s color scheme.

Galaxy Tab S4 stylus changes

Galaxy Tab S3 S Pen, left, S4 S Pen, right

Blass leaks not only the tablet itself but also the upcoming S Pen for it. Showing the Tab S3 S Pen and the Tab S4 writing tool side by side, it’s obvious that some design tweaks are in store for the next-generation S Pen. First, the clip that allows users to place the pen on a shirt pocket or pants pocket is no more. Whereas Samsung placed its brand name on the pen clip last year, the “Samsung” branding is now at the top of the pen itself – minus the pen clip.

The flat top of the S Pen is now circular or round. The bottom of the Tab S4 S Pen has a “ribbed” look to it, versus the curve of the Tab S3 S Pen. Apart from the marketing “glare” on the Galaxy Tab S4 SPen, a silver piece now encircles the upcoming S Pen. Rumors have been circulating that the Galaxy Note 9 S Pen could see the addition of Bluetooth capabilities for music playback, timers, and more. Could the upcoming Galaxy Tab S Pen see the same? It is something worth finding out.

The optional keyboard remains as well. It has been a part of the Galaxy Tab series for some time now (since at least the Tab S2) and makes its return in the upcoming generation. And yes, the dual, front-facing speakers return for stellar audio.

Galaxy Tab S4 to feature DeX dual monitor support

Samsung Dex Pad

Rumor has it that the Tab S4 will feature support for the DeX charging dock. With a twist. DeX is due for an upgrade to dual monitor support. The upcoming tablet, if it should receive DeX support, will be the first to act as a second display.

Galaxy Tab S4 specs and features

Apart from these new juicy details, the Tab S4 is expected to come with a 10.5-inch, Samsung Super AMOLED panel, a Quad HD+ (2,560 x 1,600) resolution, front-facing speakers, AKG audio, a 16:19 aspect ratio, 4GB of RAM, and the long-cherished S Pen for writing, drawing, and doodling. It could sell for as high as $700 USD (Rs. 48,000), which is no small amount of pocket change. The Galaxy Tab S4 will launch alongside the Galaxy Note 9 on August 9th.

Seeing the images now, are you excited about the upcoming Galaxy tablet? Plan on buying one?
