Earlier this month, leaked images of Samsung’s upcoming Android Go smartphone had revealed that the handset will not be running stock Android after all. The smartphone has now made an appearance on the US FCC website, hinting at an imminent launch.
Samsung Android Go Smartphone: Shows Up on FCC Website
Multiple versions of the Samsung Android Go smartphone have appeared at the US FCC with the model numbers SM-J260G/DS and SM-J260Y and FCC ID A3LSMJ260G. The various reports listed on the FCC website don’t tell us anything about the specifications of the device except that it will include a microSD card slot for further expansion. Now that the smartphone has appeared on the FCC website, we can expect Samsung to officially announce it soon. It is rumored that the smartphone will be marketed as the Galaxy J2 Core. It is said to be currently in testing in various countries across Asia, Europe, and South America.
Samsung Android Go Smartphone: Rumored Specifications, Features
Based on all the leaks so far, the Galaxy J2 Core is expected to feature a 5-inch AMOLED display, although the exact resolution hasn’t been revealed just yet. Unlike modern entry-level smartphones, the Samsung Android Go smartphone will not feature a bezel-less design. Instead, it will come with relatively thick bezels surrounding the display. Under the hood, the Android Go smartphone from Samsung is rumored to be powered by an Exynos 7570 quad-core processor clocked at 1.4 GHz. Like many other Android Go smartphones, the Galaxy J2 Core will have 1GB of RAM and 16GB of built-in storage, which will be further expandable thanks to a microSD card slot.
In the camera department, Samsung’s Android Go smartphone is rumored to feature an 8MP sensor on the back and a 5MP snapper on the front for selfies and video calls. Fueling the entry-level handset will be a 2600mAh capacity battery. On the software front, it is expected to run on the Android 8.1 Oreo (Go Edition) with the custom Samsung UX running on top. However, the handset will have all the Go Edition apps from Google, optimized for devices with low RAM and storage.
Samsung Android Go Smartphone: Expected Price in India
The entry-level Galaxy J2 Core is likely to be priced at somewhere around the Rs.6,000 mark when it lands in India. It has been more or less confirmed that the smartphone will be launched in India as well as neighboring markets like Nepal, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. What remains to be seen is when the device will actually be made official. Once it is made official by Samsung, we can expect it to be formally launched in India soon after.
