In January last year, Taiwanese PC hardware and smartphone maker ASUS announced the world’s first smartphone with a whopping 8GB of RAM, the ZenFone AR. Since then, we have seen several new flagship devices packing 8GB of RAM, with the most recent examples being the OPPO Find X and the Vivo NEX. Some Chinese leaksters have now claimed on Weibo that the first smartphones packing a ridiculous 10GB of RAM could debut later this year. Earlier this year, some rumors had claimed Vivo would release a flagship smartphone dubbed the Xplay 7 this year with 10GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. The latest leak on Weibo suggests it will be Vivo that will release the first smartphone with 10GB of RAM this year.

Vivo Flagship Smartphone with 10GB RAM Reportedly in the Works

According to a Weibo leakster, Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is currently working on a flagship smartphone packing 10GB of RAM to be released as soon as next month. The device, according to the leakster, will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 chipset. Vivo’s latest flagship smartphone, the NEX S, uses a Snapdragon 845 chipset, so it does seem a little strange that a smartphone with 10GB of RAM will be powered a mid-range Snapdragon 660 SoC. The more affordable NEX variant, dubbed the NEX A in China, also runs on a more powerful and newer Snapdragon 710 octa-core processor. The rest of the smartphone’s key specs remain a complete mystery for now but we can expect more information to surface online in the coming weeks, provided the leakster’s information is accurate.

Vivo Will Not be the Only Android OEM to Release a 10GB RAM Smartphone in 2018

The Chinese leaksters claim Vivo will not be the only Android OEM from China to release a smartphone with 10GB of RAM. Vivo’s sister brand OPPO will also reportedly launch a smartphone with 10GB RAM sometime later this year. However, it remains to be seen if the OPPO smartphone with 10GB of RAM will be the successor to the Find X, which was launched in India yesterday. Both Vivo and OPPO have impressed us with their innovative flagship smartphones so far this year, so we certainly have high expectations from their upcoming flagship smartphones. However, we aren’t too sure if 10GB of RAM on a smartphone will have any real benefit in terms of the user experience.
