In alignment with the previous reports, Oppo has finally started selling its Oppo A5 smartphone in its homeland, China. The Oppo A5 is a mid-range handset and the third device to debut under Oppo’s A-series, last week.
Oppo A5: First Sale in China, Expected Price in India
The Oppo A5 has been launched in Mirror Blue and Pink color options in China. The phone retails at CNY 1500 in China, which converts to approximately Rs. 15,331
Going by the pricing that Oppo has set for the A5 in China, we can expect the company to launch the device under 15K segment in India. It may also launch it at a fairly lesser pricing in India to compete with Xiaomi and Honor smartphones on the market.
Oppo A5: Specifications, Features
The Oppo A5 comes with a 6.2-inch HD+ notched display with 720×1520 pixels resolution, 19:9 aspect ratio, and 87.9 percent screen-to-body ratio with 2.5D curved glass panel. The phone is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor clubbed with Adreno 506 GPU and 4GB of RAM. It has 64GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 256GB via microSD card.
Concerning optics, the phone sports 13MP+2MP dual camera setup at the rear with f/2.2 aperture and f/2.4 aperture, respectively. The rear camera also boasts an LED flash. On the front, the phone has an 8MP selfie snapper with f/2.2 aperture, and AI-assisted beautify features that are capable of mapping up to 296 facial features. Connectivity options on the phone include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB, Bluetooth v4.2, GPS/ A-GPS, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. A 4230mAh battery backs the device, which is claimed to offer up 14 hours of backup on a single charge. On the software side, the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo-based ColorOS 5.1. There is also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, though the device also possesses the Face Unlock option that unlocks the device by mapping user’s face authentication. It measures 156.2×75.6×8.2mm.
Given the specifications and features of the Oppo A5, we believe that Oppo should have added more value to the device to make it compete with device like Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 or the Redmi Note 5 Pro. If the phone debuts in India with these specs and expected pricing, then one cannot expect it to fetch buyer attention as they will have better options to choose from instead of settling for the Oppo A5.
Oppo A3s Launched in India
In another news, the company has launched another device in the A-series, named Oppo A3s in India at Rs. 10,990. Similar to the Oppo A5, the Oppo A3s is also a mid-range handset. It comes with a 13MP+2MP dual rear camera setup at the rear and is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 SoC with Adreno 506 GPU, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage. The phone packs a 6.2-inch HD+ ‘Super Full Screen’ with 720×1520 pixels resolution.
