Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 (2)

A faster, better update is here for Redmi Note 4 (Review) and Redmi 5A (Review) users. The latest Xiaomi user interface update in the form of MIUI 10 Beta has started reaching the Redmi Note 4 and Redmi 5A. This update would make the handsets capable of new features and UI design that users had been waiting for eagerly. The MIUI 10 Beta update for other Xiaomi devices is coming soon.

Redmi Note 4: MIUI 10 Beta Update

A Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 user posted on the discussion forum Reddit today that his phone had started receiving the MIUI 10 v8.7.12 Beta update. Sharing a screenshot of the download of Xiaomi’s user interface update, the Redmi Note 4 user said the change does not feel drastic as compared to MIUI 9 and MIUI 8. The movement of the notification panel feels faster and the weather app looks better, the user said.

An MIUI 10 feature that was exciting many Redmi Note 4 users was the selfie portrait mode, which enables capturing images with background blur effect even with a single camera. However, the latest beta version of MIUI 10 lacks this feature right now, at least for the Redmi Note 4. The selfie portrait mode is the new ‘in’ thing among smartphone users, MIUI 10 uses AI (artificial intelligence) to capture such images so that there’s no need for two cameras.

Redmi 5A: MIUI 10 Beta Update

The Xiaomi Redmi 5A, which was launched late last year with MIUI 9 based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat, has started receiving the MIUI 10 Beta ROM 8.7.12 update. For Redmi 5A users who were hoping that the MIUI 10 update will bring Android 8.0 Oreo update to their phones, there’s a bad news: the update is still based on Android 7.1.2 Nougat.

Apart from the UI design upgrade, there’s not much in terms of new software features. The official changelog just mentions improved system stability and optimised system performance. In case you want to download this update on your Redmi 5A, you should know that the Recovery ROM has a file size of 1.3GB, while the Fastboot ROM has a file size of 1.9GB. You can download the ROM and read the flashing guide from here.
