Last month, Xiaomi had filed a trademark application for a new smartphone brand dubbed POCOPHONE. The first POCOPHONE device, carrying the model number M1805SE10A had received the FCC certification earlier this month, suggesting that the device might be made official soon. It had also received certification from the EEC recently. The POCOPHONE smartphone has now been caught on video, revealing quite a few interesting details.

POCOPHONE F1: Beryllium Codename Revealed in Hands-On Video

The hands-on video reveals the first POCOPHONE branded smartphone from Xiaomi is codenamed “Beryllium”. Our regular readers will be aware that this codename was leaked on the web earlier this week. Rumors suggest “Beryllium” could be Xiaomi’s fourth flagship smartphone of 2018 and is expected to be launched in India sometime later this year. It was said to feature an LCD display with a notch at the top and could run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 octa-core processor under the hood. The smartphone, according to rumors, will also sport a large 4000mAh capacity battery. While no details regarding fast charging have surfaced yet, we can expect the handset to come with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0+ support. It will also come with NFC support and the dual-camera setup on the back of the handset is said to offer optical zoom feature as well.

In terms of design, the POCOPHONE is similar to the Mi 8 from the front, with a relatively wide notch at the top. From the back, however, the POCOPHONE F1 appears very different. Instead of an iPhone X-inspired layout in the top-left corner, the dual camera sensors on the back of the handset are positioned in the middle of the top portion. This isn’t entirely surprising, as POCOPHONE branded smartphones are expected to have at least a few distinguishing design features compared to Xiaomi’s Mi and Redmi line of smartphones.

POCOPHONE F1: Leaked Specifications, Features

The POCOPHONE F1 hands-on video shows the device’s About screen, revealing some of the handset’s key specifications and features. Just as rumored, POCOPHONE F1, codenamed ‘Beryllium’ is powered by an octa-core processor clocked at 2.8 GHz. While the name of the chipset hasn’t been revealed, the 2.8 GHz clock speed does suggest that the handset will indeed be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset under the hood. In the memory department, the POCOPHONE F1 is listed to include 6GB of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Some other memory configurations might be offered at launch, although this hasn’t been confirmed yet. The hands-on video also confirms the smartphone will be running on the Android 8.1 Oreo-based MIUI 9 out of the box. However, depending on when the smartphone is actually launched, there is a chance that it might ship with MIUI 10 out of the box.

POCOPHONE F1: Expected Price in India

Even though the full spec sheet of the POCOPHONE F1 is not available yet, there is no doubt that it will offer flagship-grade specifications more or less on par with the Mi 8. When it lands in India, we can expect the smartphone to carry a price tag of somewhere around the Rs.35,000 mark.
