Xiaomi’s Mi A1 Android One smartphone has started receiving Android 8.1 Oreo update with July security patch. The device was released by Xiaomi in July, last year, and it has received regular software updates until now. The latest update makes the device equipped with fixes that were included in the July security patch against vulnerabilities and bugs. To recall, this is the second Android 8.1 update rollout attempt by the company as the first attempt was paused due to a bug. This fresh rollout of the update include July security patch.

One of the greatest strengths of the Xiaomi Mi A1 is Google’s Android One operating system. The device runs stock Android and is the first such device to be released by Xiaomi. No wonder that the Mi A1 is among Xiaomi’s one of the best selling smartphones. The Android 8.1 update for the smartphone was rolled out at the end of June but was pulled due to a bug that reportedly wiped messages app from the recent app screen. It looks like Xiaomi has fixed the issue and started rolling out the update again. The Mi A1 users should rejoice as the latest update also brings July security patch.
According to some posts on Reddit, the Mi A1 units that are already running Android 8.1 from previous unsuccessful rollout, are getting the July security patch separately. While Android 8.1 update is around 1GB in size, the one with July security patch is only 467.3MB in size.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 price in India is Rs. 13,999. However, the phone is no more available for purchase in the country. Now that Xiaomi is prepping to bring out a successor to the Mi A1, dubbed to be Mi A2, the company has closed the sale window for the Mi A1 smartphone.

The Xiaomi Mi A1 comes with a 5.5-inch LTPS IPS LCD screen with 1920×1080 pixels resolution. It is powered by a Snapdragon 625 chipset with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to 128GB via microSD card. Being an Android One device, it runs stock Android OS out-of-the-box. On the imaging front, the phone sports a 12MP+12MP dual camera setup at the rear, wherein the primary lens features 1.25-micron pixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture, while the other has a telephoto lens, 1-micron pixel sensor, a f/2.6 aperture, and 2x optical zoom. There is a 5MP selfie camera on the front with real-time beautification mode. A 3080mAh battery backs the device.
Connectivity options on the phone include dual-SIM, 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11ac, GPS/ A-GPS, USB Type-C port, and 3.5mm headphone jack. It measures 155.4×75.8×7.3mm, and weighs 168 grams. Xiaomi has also equipped the phone with audio technologies such as 10V smart power amplifier and DHS Audio Calibration Algorithm.
