HMD Global’s second smartphone with a notched display, the X5 was expected to make its debut in China on July 11. However, at the last moment, the company announced that it had to cancel the event due to some venue-related issues. HMD Global has now confirmed that the X5 will be launched at an event in China this Wednesday, i.e. July 18th. The info was shared by the company’s official Weibo handle just a while back.
Nokia X5: Launch Date Confirmed
As mentioned above, HMD Global will be launching the Nokia X5 in China on July 18th. The launch event will begin at 11:30 IST (2 PM in Beijing). The smartphone will likely go on sale in China a few days after its formal launch on Wednesday. As for its global availability, we may have to wait at least a few more weeks for any official confirmation. However, a recent rumor did claim that HMD Global is indeed planning to launch the X5 as well as X7 smartphones globally. In global markets, the X5 is expected to be marketed as the Nokia 5.1 Plus.
Nokia X5: Specifications, Features
The Nokia X5 is expected to be a budget-friendly offering, so its rumored specifications aren’t anywhere near as impressive as the X6. According to latest rumors, the Nokia X5 will come with a 5.85-inch sized LCD display with 720 x 1520 HD+ resolution and a 19:9 aspect ratio. Similar to the Nokia X6, the X5 will have a notch at the top. Under the hood, the handset is expected to be powered by an octa-core MediaTek Helio P60 chipset clocked at 2.0 GHz. However, some rumors have also suggested the chipset could instead be running on a Helio P23 chipset under the hood. The Helio P23 is manufactured on a 16nm manufacturing technology and uses an octa-core design clocked at up to 2.3 GHz with an ARM Mali-G71 MP2 GPU.
In terms of memory, the Nokia X5 is rumored to be available in 3GB, 4GB, and 6GB RAM variants with either 32GB or 64GB storage variants. For further expansion, the Nokia X5 will come with a Hybrid Dual-SIM slot, just like the Nokia X6. On the back of the smartphone will be a dual-camera setup with a 13MP resolution primary sensor and a 5MP resolution secondary sensor. Thanks to the dual-camera setup, the Nokia X5 will be capable of taking Portrait shots with a nice depth of field. For taking selfies and video chats, the smartphone is expected to sport an 8MP snapper on the front.
Moving on to connectivity, the Nokia X6 is expected to come with Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, 4G VoLTE, and a USB Type-C port. Keeping the lights on could be a 3000mAh capacity battery, just a little smaller in capacity compared to the 3060mAh juicer found in the Nokia X6. The smartphone will also be equipped with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. On the software front, we expect the Nokia X5 to ship with the latest Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box.
Nokia X5: Expected Price in India
Based on the specifications rumored, we can expect the Nokia X5 to be priced at somewhere around the Rs.10,000 mark for the base storage variant. The top-end configuration with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, however, is likely to be priced closer to the Rs.15,000 mark.
