Armani Smartwatches Launched: ‘Connected’ Wear OS Timepieces To Offer Heart-Rate Tracking And On-Wrist Payment

Fashion and brand conscious users of smartwatches now have multiple options from Emporio Armani. The Connected Wear OS smartwatches offer several health and fitness functions.

Emporio Armani “Connected” Wear OS smartwatches have gone on sale from today. These wristwatches will have several health and fitness monitoring features in addition to on-wrist Google payment system through NFC. Surprisingly, Armani has priced these “fashion” focused smartwatches quite well, and they fall in line with similar wristwatches from LG, Samsung or Huawei.

The next generation of Connected smartwatches by popular European lifestyle brand Emporio Armani, launched today on the official Armani website. The premium Italian fashion house has ensured the fashion and brand conscious smartwatch users will also have most of the fitness and health monitoring features that these smart wearable devices offer.

Armani Connected Wear OS Smartwatches: Specifications

The Connected smart wristwatches from the house of Armani sport a standard 1.9 inch AMOLED display with active diameter of 390 mm and rather healthy 328 PPI pixel density. Interestingly, Armani has opted for Stainless Steel as the material of construction for the smartwatch.

Snapdragon Wear 2100 platform processor powers the Connected smartwatches. The Italian fashion house hasn’t mentioned technical details about the processor, but the Snapdragon 2100 SoC is optimized for wearable devices where power management is one of the top priorities. The SoC packs a Quad ARM Cortex A7 that can go up to 1.2 GHz. It has an embedded Qualcomm Adreno 304 GPU. The Armani Connected Wear OS watches may include 512 MB RAM paired with 4 GB of internal memory. The smartwatch is expected to pack a lithium-ion battery with capacity somewhere near 400 mAh.

Fortunately, apart from style, the Armani smartwatches have ample useful and practical features. The watches can monitor heart rate. They also boast of “Swimproof Technology”. Essentially, the wristwatch wearers can take a shower or dive up to 3 ATM. The new Armani watch will use the Tic Health app and Mobvoi’s app store in China. The built-in GPS sensor and other features allow the Armani smartwatch to support several fitness tracking applications.

Majority of the smartwatches launched recently, support Google Pay transactions using the onboard NFC chip. The Armani Connected smartwatches too offer this feature. There’s also Google Assistant functionality. Chinese buyers of Armani watches will get Alipay and the Mobvoi Assistant instead.

Armani Connected Wear OS Smartwatches: Price And Availability

With Armani wear, it has traditionally been more about style and statement than raw power and hardware. Hence, Armani Connected Wear OS smartwatches have several different body and strap combinations. Although the entire smartwatch’s external body is made from Stainless Steel, the wristwatches can be ordered in silver, black, and rose gold. Fortunately, Armani offers a few non-metal options for the strap. Buyers can choose metallic single link bracelets or straps made from leather. There’s also a mesh option available.

Buyers can pre-order the smartwatches from the Armani website. The company is promising shipping in late August for most of the smartwatches featured on the site. The prices for these fashionable yet functional smartwatches range from $295 to $395 (Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 30,000 approx).

Smartwatch manufacturers are increasingly ditching their custom, in-house developed operating systems for Google’s streamlined Wear OS, which was previously named Android Wear. Although a few users have grumbled about shortening of battery life, Google has been regularly optimizing the Wear OS. Also, chipmakers like Qualcomm have stepped up development of energy efficient SoCs that do not compromise on functions.

Fossil has been actively getting its smartwatches certified. With the entry of Emporio Armani Connected Wear OS watches, the smartwatch segment has certainly heated up even more. Although the sticker prices of these devices is slightly higher than the mainstream competition, fashion and brand conscious buyers have a lot to look forward.
