Huawei today formally launched its latest Nova series smartphone, the Nova 3 at an event in China. Targeted at the youth, Nova 3 offers flagship-grade hardware combined with a sleek design and a large notched FullView display. The company also launched the Nova 3i and the TalkBand B5, a fitness band that sports a Bluetooth headset.
Huawei Nova 3: Specifications, Features
The Huawei Nova 3 sports a 6.3-inch IPS LCD FullView display with 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and an ultra-tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, Nova 3 runs on HiSilicon’s flagship Kirin 970 octa-core processor with a Mali-G72 MP12 GPU and GPU Turbo technology, coupled with 6GB of RAM. In terms of storage, the Nova 3 comes with an impressive 128GB of onboard memory. For further expansion, the smartphone includes a microSD card slot as well.
Moving on to optics, the Huawei Nova 3 is equipped with a 16MP + 24MP dual-camera setup on the back and a 24MP + 2MP dual-camera setup on the front for selfies. The rear camera comes with AI-powered intelligent scene recognition and also supports HDR Pro. Apart from Face Unlock, the front-facing camera on the Nova 3 supports 3D Qmoji as well, similar to Apple’s Animoji feature. Another feature that the Nova 3 shares in common with the iPhone X is 3D Face recognition. Along with 3D Face Recognition technology, the Nova 3 includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor as well . The dual 24MP + 2MP setup on the front also comes with AI-powered Beauty Mode to help enhance selfies. Connectivity-wise, the Nova 3 supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, 4G VoLTE, and a USB Type-C port. Keeping the lights on is a 3750mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. The Nova 3 also includes a fingerprint sensor, placed on the back of the handset. In terms of software, the Nova 3 will ship with Android 8.1 Oreo-based EMUI 8.2 out of the box.
Huawei Nova 3: Price, Availability
The Huawei Nova 3 will be going on sale in China starting from the 20th of July, i.e. this coming Friday in Gold, Purple, Blue and Black color options. It has been priced at 2,999 yuan, which translates to Rs.30,600 based on the current exchange rate.
Huawei Nova 3i: Specifications, Features
The Huawei Nova 3i also comes with a large 6.3-inch FullView display with 1080 x 2340 Full HD+ resolution and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. However, the Nova 3i runs on a less powerful Kirin 710 octa-core processor under the hood. HiSilicon’s latest mid-range SoC, the Kirin 710 is manufactured using a 12nm FinFET process. Compared to the Kirin 659, the new Kirin 710 is said to offer 2 times faster CPU performance and up to 2.29 times faster GPU performance. Similar to the Nova 3, the Nova 3i comes with Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology as well.
In the camera department, Nova 3i is equipped with a 16MP + 2MP dual-camera setup at the rear and 24MP + 2MP dual selfie cameras on the front. Connectivity-wise, the Nova 3i supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, and 4G VoLTE. Keeping the lights on is a smaller 3340mAh capacity battery without fast charging support. Similar to the Nova 3, the Nova 3i includes a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. In terms of software, the Nova 3i runs on the Android 8.1 Oreo operating system out of the box with Huawei’s EMUI 8.2 running on top.
Huawei Nova 3i: Price, Availability
The Nova 3i is priced at 1,999 yuan (Rs.20,400 approx.) for the 4GB RAM + 32GB storage variant, while the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is priced at 2,199 yuan (Rs.22,400 approx.). It will be available in three colors – Black, White, and Purple starting from August 8th.
Huawei Nova 3, Nova 3i: Expected Price in India
As confirmed by Huawei recently, the Nova 3 and Nova 3i smartphones will be launched in India on the 26th of July as Amazon-exclusives. While the Nova 3 is expected to be priced somewhere close to the Rs.30,000 mark in India, we expect the Nova 3i to be priced closer to the Rs.20,000 mark.
Huawei TalkBand B5: Specifications, Features
The Huawei TalkBand B5 comes with a 1.13-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with 300 x 160 pixel resolution and a layer of 2.5D curved glass on top. In terms of design, the TalkBand B5 is available with various strap options and is made using 316L stainless steel. Its key highlight is a pop-up Bluetooth headset that includes dual microphones with noise reduction. Like most other fitness bands, it comes with an IP67 certification for dust and water resistance. The TalkBand B5 offers continuous motion detection, a heart-rate sensor, and sleep tracking with Huawei TruSleep 2.0. Thanks to the AMOLED display, you will be able to use the TalkBand B5 for more than just viewing your fitness stats like calorie count and step count. The TalkBand B5 supports messaging apps like WeChat, QQ, and can even be used to make phone calls using a connected smartphone. It is compatible with Android smartphones running on version 4.4 or newer as well as iPhones running iOS 9.0 or newer versions.
Huawei TalkBand B5: Price, Availability
The Huawei TalkBand B5 starts at 999 yuan (Rs.10,200 approx.) in China for the most affordable version with a silicone band and goes up to 1,499 yuan (Rs.15,300 approx.) for the top-end business edition with a metal strap. Priced between the two at 1,199 yuan (Rs.12,200 approx.) is the version with a leather band.
